Primal Impulse
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »

Condition: Medium Oil

Core: Impulse™

Cover: Atomix™ SFP Reactive

Weights: 12# - 16#

Ball Color: Blue / Lime Pearl

NeoMark Color: Hot Pink Pearl / Black

Finish: 2000 Wet Sand / Power Gel® Polish

The new Primal Impulse is the first skid-flip ball from MOTIV.  It  features new Atomix SFP Reactive coverstock and the new dual-density  Impulse core.  This is an outstanding piece of equipment!  Engineered  for medium oil, the ball is very long and clean down the lane with a  fast backend transition and incredible drive through the pins. When you  want to swing the ball across the lane on a beat-up oil pattern and have  it unleash off the dry, the Primal Impulse is the ball you want in your  hand.
If the bowling industry had “Best Core Design Awards”, we believe  MOTIV’s new Impulse™ would be the slam-dunk winner!  We’re talking high  RG and dual-density on this new high performance core. It provides the  15# ball with a 2.60 RG to get you down the lane with ease and a .050  differential for track flare of 5”+.  The dual-density design maximizes  the backend reaction through complex physics we won’t get into, but the  bottom line is outstanding ball motion.
The look of this ball is crazy too!  MOTIV complimented the insane ball  performance with a color scheme that demands attention.  Hot Pink Pearl  and Black NeoMark graphics are integrated with a Blue Pearl and Lime  Pearl coverstock.  You WILL notice this ball on the lanes and on the  shelf in the pro shop.  It screams – LOOK AT ME!

This ball is truly unlike any ball I have thrown before......Prior to this release I had the pleasure to drill up the Raptor than the Sigma Tour and theses ball truly love oil patterns, BUT when the heads start to burn up this is the money ball. This ball is VERY clean in the front part of the lane and still holds it's energy for the back part of the lanes. On a THS aka True House Shot this is a great benchmark ball on lower oil shots or after your benchmark ball becomes too much this is the best replacement. This ball will be a true value and needs to be in your bag!

My specs, avg. ball speed & rev rate . . old school tweener.  PAP = 5 x 1/2 up.  Ball specs have been posted so I will go right into my review.   This is Motiv's first true skid/flip ball.  I drilled my initial one w/80x50x3.75 w/P2.5 hole.  This put the ring finger through the pin, kicking the CG out.  Left it at OOB finish then later hit it slightly w/used 3000 pad.  I love the reaction I get w/this ball on the THS & 40' or less sport patterns !!  Due to the Atomix SFP coverstock the ball gives you easy length through the heads and an excellent read off the back part of the mid-lane.  Due to the wild color configuration on this orb, I can read what the core is doing throughout it's journey down the lane.  This layout on these lane conditions, the ball really does flip!   There were times when I swear there was something on the lane that the ball hit and made it jump left, but no, it was all ball!  This ball was instrumental in helping me win out local Masters tourney.

I was able to obtain a second Primal Impulse w/5.2" pin/cg.  I like long pins because I have a 5" span so those pin/cg's provide me w/more drilling options.  Drilled this one at 45x35x5.25 w/P2 hole.  This ball surprised me in that it naturally goes longer but was smoother off the spot.  Sort of expected a big flip but pleased to see how hard it did turn but w/alot of control.  I can move right w/this one and play the oil line longer than w/my first one.  Gives me a real nice 1 - 2 punch when attacking a lane condition.  Going to eventually take the coverstock down on this one to 1500 and see what I get.

Motiv has put out some great balls in the past that have been strong arching types so this "flippster" is a very welcome addition to the line.  You would be remiss not to take a good look at this bad boy . . and everyone under 40 loves the color combo's used.  Best of luck to all and get  MOTIV-ated !!

A Must Have In Your Bag !!!!!!!!!!

The new MOTIV Primal Impulse is the 1st skip/flip from the company’s product line and boy does it FLIPPPPPPPPPP. The bright Lime Pearl and Blue color combination looks awesome with the Hot Pink and Black NeoMark Logo. You will not have a problem finding your ball on the rack. The 2000 OOB finish helps the ball almost float through the heads with ease as it stores its hitting power for the check mark move its about to make further down the lane. The Atomix SFP reactive cover stock combined with the new dual-density Impulse core is a match made in heaven. I have not experienced a ball that revs off my hand so fast (2.60 RG with a .050 differential) and maintain a track 5” track flare (medium oil) as it makes a hard turn to the pocket off my breakpoint. The dynamics of the ball motion is something you will have to roll to believe. My new Primal Impulse, Sigma Tour and QZ1 (Red) balls have the versatility to cover almost any shot that a bowling proprietor put down.

Stay tuned for the next MOTIV ball set to release in January 2012.

Likes:  The new Motiv Primal Impulse is Motiv's first skid-flip ball.  I've not been a big fan of skid-flip equipment in the past but this ball is awesome.  There is something different about this ball and you can tell the minute the ball hits the pins.  I don't think I've thrown a ball that hits the pins harder than this ball does.  The ball delivers excellent length down lane and incredible recovery with pin punishing power through the pins.  I am so very impressed with this latest edition to the Motiv line up.  You would never believe I throw 14 pound equipment by watching what this ball does to the pins.

The Bowler:

Left handed

Ball speed = 17

Rev Rate = 400

PAP = 5 ¾, 3/8 up

With eye catching style the Primal Impulse transitions smooth in the late mid lane with a much higher entry angle then the original Primal. The Primal Impulse is cleaner in the heads and saves the energy for down lane. I’ve been able to use this ball on almost every lane condition from the PBA Cheetah pattern to house shots even on the shark pattern with surface adjustments and hand release changes. A ball that versatile is hard to come buy. I’ve also fund the ball to be rather release friendly especially on house shots. Crankers, tweeners, and strokers will like the easy length in the heads, with a smooth strong anguler motion on the backend. This ball doesn’t lack the ability to roll over and go into a hard roll in the backend. That’s what I loved about the original primal but often it didn’t go long enough down the lane. Having that kind of entry angle is one major key to this ball having such great pin carry from different angles.

Likes:Hello everyone this is the ball to have in the bag. When the lanes break down and you need a ball that gets threw the heads, mid lane and still hits like a truck here it is. This is truly a skid/flip ball. Truly this ball is great on all conditions yes even fresh and the color scheme is sweet. I've been throwing it on fresh lately and it  stores up energy for an angular move on the back end  I've had no problem throwing it all three games. I use to worry about losing pin carry moving deep inside when the lanes broke down and with the Primal Impulse my worries are all gone this ball does the job. Thanks Motiv

Likes:  Easy through the front and recovers without effort. Great go to ball when you want to get in the middle and not worry about getting around the corner. Hitting power is scary strong. Keeps the pins low and moving fast. This will fit my arsonal as the ball to use when the fronts are a little burned and I need back end recovery and continuation.

Motiv’s first shot at a ball that gives a true skid-flip reaction does not miss its mark. The 2000-grit finish with the Power Gel Polish, combined with a 2.60 RG core, allows the ball to easily clear the heads and save its energy for the backend transition.  As the ball approaches the breakpoint it begins to rev up quickly allowing it to move sharply off of the spot, something the .050 Diff helps to facilitate.  The Primal Impulse has been a very good medium oil and broken-down oil ball for me. Once my Sigma Tour begins to hook a little too soon I switch to this, make a small adjustment right and continue to crush the pocket. The ball effortlessly glides through the heads and is very strong in its backend reaction. Once it hits the pins it continues through the deck with great power; I have already left more 9-pins because of it driving through to the pit than I have with the rest of my arsenal combined. Even when I have missed to the right the ball still has enough energy to turn on its left-turn signal and make it back to the pocket. If you’re looking for angularity and continuation power, not to mention the snazzy color scheme,  the Primal Impulse is the ball for you.

Boy,the slogan says it all with this ball,GRIP IT AND FLIP IT!

I drilled my Primal Impulse 70 x 5" x 35 and boy is this ball clean! Out of box this ball was EXTREMELY lengthy and angular, perfect ball for league patterns. I then decided to play with the surface and boy did I find that when I broke the shell with a light 2k that this ball became an absolute monster,I love the motion I get with this ball at 2k,even without the shine the ball is insanely clean and still pops off the pattern.

I'd recommend this ball to anyone looking for a ball to open up their angles and get left and let it wheel!

The Primal Impulse by MOTIV Bowling is by far the most angular piece Motiv has ever produced. The new Impulse core is wrapped around the ATOMIX SFP (Skid Flip Pearl) shell. The dual density Impulse core gives the Primal Impulse an RG of 2.60 and a differential of .050 in 15 pounds. I chose to drill my Primal Impulse 50 x 5 x 40, leaving it at the box surface it shows me alot of nice backend.

Coming out of the box at 2000 and Power Gel Polish the Primal Impulse gives the bowler a skid flip reaction. On a house shot, or tournament patterns when the lanes go through transition the Primal Impulse shows its length and strength down the lane. However with surface changes the ball can match up better on flatter patterns.

In comparision to the previous release the  Sigma Tour, the Primal Impulse is the perfect ball down from it. You are able to play the same part of the lane, without worry of the ball not getting through the front part of the lane. In comparision to other "dry" lane balls from MOTIV the QZ2 Blue/Black and Recon Silver RX-1, the Primal Impulse will read the lane earlier and have much more backend.

There are many angular bowling balls on the market but the Primal Impulse stands out not only due to the colors, but the continuation the ball has through the pins due to that dual density of the Impulse core. If you are bowling a second shift league, or having trouble when the lanes begin to transition or break down the Primal Impulse is what you are looking for!

Likes:The Motiv Primal Impulse is the perfect ball for the bowler that likes to see the skid flip reaction..Or if you are a bowler that likes to play straight (like myself) and the friction outside forces you to migrate in but when you move in you dont have a ball that will store up all of the energy till it gets downlane to that spot and then makes that strong flip to the pocket!!Something Like no other MOTIV ball in the line... once the first ball out of the bag starts hooking too early or starts to putter out at the end when you move...THIS IS THE BALL TO GO TO!!I posted a small video of this ball bellow, check it out and check out motivbowling.com! Motiv Primal Impulse

I wasn't sure what to expect from this ball at first. I really like the  Sigma Tour and the Primal Impulse with it's new high RG core and pearl  version of the Atomix Cover found on the Sigma Tour. Since I like the Sigma Tour I put very similar drillings (60x4.75x60) low pin and (45x5.25x45) high pin on the Primal  Impulse to see what the new core and cover would do. What I found is a  ball that glides through the front part of the lane without the squirt  in oil that you get from most pearl balls. The path down the lane between the Sigma Tour and the Primal are close with the Primal getting a little more length  and a little more entry angle into the pocket. Overall hook between the two is also very close.  What impressed me was the carry that the PI gave me on the medium house shot that is was bowling on. Shots that I thought were going to leave me a 10 pin to shoot at just seem snap them out.

I can see using the Primal Impulse on most medium patterns or later in the set when your oiler won't make the corner and starts leaving flat 10's.

Likes: Very good matchup for THS condition. Ball has very good length and does a great job of not overreacting when hitting friction. I found with this ball I can stay out in the friction longer without having to jump inside due to the fact that this ball gives you a strong PREDICTABLE backend motion and will not hook early as the heads and midlane start to dry out. This is probably one of the most forgiving balls I have thrown throughout a set on a THS house shot in that I don't get penalized with splits when I am behind on the adjustments needed as the lanes breakdown. I would definately recommend this ball for your THS.

The Motiv Primal Impulse is an awesome ball. I have raised my average 10 pins since using this ball. It has given me a clean reaction through the heads with excellent backend reaction especially on wood lanes where the heads break down a little quicker. The balls makes the turn at the breakpoint and just continues through the pins. I am finding myself shooting less corner pins than ever. I have used this ball on various conditions from a medium oil pattern at 33 foot and a heavy oil pattern at 45 foot and on both wood and synthetic surfaces.

I am right handed and throw the ball at 17mph. The ball is drilled 50x35x4 3/8 with a P2 hole and was left at the factory finish of 2000. I use the Motiv Power Gel Scuff to keep the ball clean and ready to react at all times. If you want a ball with a skid flip reaction then this is a great choice. Thank you Motiv for another excellent ball to add to my arsenal and the additional 10 pins to my average.

Likes:  This ball is awesome! Another great addition to the Motiv family.  It gets through the fronts and has plenty of pop on the backend.  You can play pretty striaght with it on fresh or move and open the lane up as they transition with out losing energy or pin carry.  It is a little weaker than the Sigma Tour which is the "Benchmark Ball" and usually the one I start with, so when the lane tends to transition and you need something to get through the spot but still retain some energy to continue through the pins - this ball is a must have in your bag. Not only does the ball react and roll great, but the color looks fantastic too!
