Ball NPS Score: 100.00
CORE: Thrust
COVERSTOCK: Vicious Pearl Reactive
FINISH:   2000 and polished w/Power Gel
RG RATING: 15#-2.54
RG DIFFERENTIAL:   15#-.052
Recommended Lane Condition: Medium to Heavy Oil Patterns
- A few tiny pit holes in the cover stock of the ball are normal
DESCRIPTION: The Primal TV4 is an aggressive weapon for medium-heavy oil that features the latest coverstock technology from MOTIV. The Thrust inner core provides the Primal with a 2.54 RG and .052 differential on the 15# ball. It stores energy for the backend and produces tremendous track flare. The backend strength is boosted further with the new Vicious Pearl Reactive shell, which has aggressive motion, even in the oil carrydown. Finished to 2000 and polished with Power Gel, this is the strongest coverstock yet from MOTIV.
The NeoMark graphics on the Primal TV4 are everything you’ve come to expect from MOTIV. The yellow claw marks against the black and silver pearl shell are very striking. This ball has massive shelf appeal.

========================================================================

I'll go ahead & be the first to review this ball.  I know many more will follow.  I drilled mine 60x4.75x35 which, for me puts the ring finger through the pin . . a layout I tend to favor.  Also, has a P3 hole.  This ball has their popular Thrust core w/new Vicious Pearl Reactive coverstock.  Playing a THS, this ball was very clean through the heads.  Never overread the midlane and made one of the better moves off the pattern I've seen from a Thrust core ball.  Most definitely more angular then the TX1, TZ3, or the TR2.  I had plenty of room to throw this ball right & it had no problem coming back.

I wanted to see how it would do on alittle more volume so I sanded mine w/fresh 1500 pad & put a semi-sport shot out that was flatter than THS & alittle more volume.  Man did this ball perform!!   Again, I like the way this ball revs up & moves off the pattern.  Had to play somewhat more direct but I'm not a big rev bowler so that's move is normal for me.  And boy, does this ball hit like a truck!  Loud, cracking sound!  Heads did turn.

If you are looking to jump into the Motiv line, give this bad boy a look.  I think you'll be very happy.

This is another great addition to the MOTIV line up.  This has a new cover wrapped around the awesome T core.  This provides excellent roll through the lane (like the other T core balls) with a more angular move on the back.  This is an excellent choice for those med/heavy patterns.  I've punched up 3 of these gems so far with different layouts and surface prep and all three give excellent reactions.  I've included a video of the three Primals thrown on a fresh house pattern.

This ball will fit under your TR2's and Cruel's, and give you a great look on the med/heavy patterns when the Cruels and TR2's are too much ball.  Oh, and it looks pretty sweety as well!

I'm able to go to this ball when the Cruel is a little bit too much.  And it completely distroys the med league patterns I've thrown it on.  This ball reads the lanes well and pops the back very strong!  If you are looking for an angular ball to fit under your Cruel, then this is the ball for you!  Add one of these gems to your bag, you won't be disapointed!

Overall ball summary:
specs. are in my profile.
Drilled 35 x 4 1/2" x 70.....I wanted a very controlled layout on this ball as I have needed a good pearl to get through the heads, but not be squirty on the backend of the lane. This layout puts the pin down under my ring finger with a small but deep hole @ p2 position.
This layout gave me exactly what I was looking for later on in the league night, clean through the fronts, good midlane read and a nice continuous arc to and through the pins, pretty much ignoring any carrydown. This was at OOB surface. I have also threw this polished at 4000ab + polish, this surface for me created what I did not want which was too much length and a very over/under reaction...so back to box surface. IMHO, this is my back up to my CRUEL drilled 50 x 4" x 60.....start with the CRUEL on the fresh, once the CRUEL starts burning up early, I make the switch to the PRIMAL and just keep chasing it left.
MOTIV has had great success with the THRUST core and this is just another great addition to their already impressive line. I can not wait to see what they have up their sleeve next! Get MOTIVated!

Likes: The Primal TV4 is a perfect compliment to any bowlers arsenal of equipment. This ball gives you the ability to play several different angles to the pocket. The Primal TV4 keeps the pins low as it destroys racks. This ball will put a smile on anyone's face because you will have the advantage over your competition. I am very impressed with this bowling ball.

In addition:

I am a very high rev rate bowler. The layout for my Primal TV4 is pin up, just above my fingers on the mid-line and the CG is 3/4 of an inch to the right of my mid-line in the center of my grip. No, weight hole. The Primal TV4 flares quite a bit and this ball hooks.

All that I can say is WOW! This is the best ball produced by Motiv in my opinion.  I drilled two of these balls up two weeks ago last Thursday, just putting the pin above my bridge and MB out 30 degrees and one with a Rico pattern.  Both ball is very smooth through the front and moves through the backend like a MAC TRUCK! I have been average 231 with these balls.  I have bowled 2 (280), 1 (279), and 2 (278).  l bowled 5 (700+) and several 690s series.  If this ball is in your bag you are ready for fresh oil and carry down.  Strikes allot.

Dislikes:  The ball does not like dry lanes unless you go straight up the back of it.

Likes: Drilled my first one pin over bridge on center line, smal cg kick, no hole. Is a favorite drilling of mine, and allows me to get straighter in the fronts, while having the ball store energy for a strong backend reaction. This ball was a bit too strong at first on the fresh, but once the transition started, I was able to move farther left. Being a tweener, this usually results in me sacrificing pin carry, but the Primal has taken care of that! Much like other balls in the MOTIV line, this ball opened up the pocket for me as I moved deeper on the lane, and I was thoroughly impressed with the "swish zone" carry I had as I got to 4th arrow and beyond. Even fellow competitors were asking what brought the power out! A definite hit by MOTIV, and one that can be used on a variety of conditions with surface adjustments.
I have thrown this ball on other patterns and our local THS, and can say that it outhooks anything else, and rolls through the pins with as much authority as I've ever seen!

MOTIV PRIMAL TV4

Coverstock:

The PRIMAL TV4 bowling ball features the all new Vicious™ Pearl Reactive coverstock. It claws through oil carry down for a strong and consistent backend reaction.

Box Finish

The PRIMAL™ is 2000 wet sanded and then polished with Motiv Power Gel®. This gives you length and an aggressive backend continuation.

Inner Core:

The proven Thrust™ inner core is at the heart of the PRIMAL™. The combination of core and cover makes a well matched combination.

The Primal™ features the most visually impactful NeoMark graphic yet. And, as with all NeoMark graphics, the logo is actually part of the coverstock so it can be sanded, polished, or tuned just like any other performance ball.

Primal™ drilled:

Axis Point - 5" over 0" up/down

Pin to PAP- 4" – pin right and below ring finger
CG Placement - lower right quadrant, stacked pin
Balance Hole – no weight hole needed (11/16 side after drilling)
Basic Drilling 4 X 4
Surface Preparation - Out of Box (2000 Polished)

Review:

The Primal is the first ball out of the bag since it is made to overcome freshly oiled conditions. It travels nicely through the front part of the lane then reads the midlane and makes a strong move toward the pocket. What makes this ball a winner is Motiv’s already proven Thrust core matched with a strong pearl cover, the new Vicious Pearl Reactive. This cover handles surface changes very effectively since I have added extra Motiv polish to increase length and have also used a 4000 pad to create an earlier read to even out the backend. All I have to say is Motiv is going in the right direction with their ball releases. This ball is another nice addition to my Motiv arsenal. Thanks Motiv!

MOTIV does it again!!

The combination of the Thrust core and MOTIV's new Vicious Pearl cover will work out very well on most lane conditions for most bowlers. The 2000 Wet Sand cover with power gel polish gives a great look, and handles carry down really well. The company says this ball is not for dry lane conditions, and I must agree, you will need some head oil for this ball to produce the reaction you are looking for. The PRIMAL reminds me of the SR2 with about a 3-4 foot later break, making this ball more angular. MOTIV equipment retains the most energy of all the other equipment I have thrown.
I used a pretty basic 4x4 layout with the pin up, no weight hole, as I do with all first ball drills, allowing me to get a good read on the ball characteristics and then make any drilling choices for ball number 2. Your ball driller will no what layout willl work best for your style of game.
I  had the chance to throw it on a PBA Scorpion pattern with box finish and the ball more than performed well. I pulled it out in game 2 and 3 and went 233-237. Our THS  is a USBC White #2 pattern on HPL'S, so there is a lot of friction outside and a nice puddle in the middle, the ball rolled great, was predictable and controllable. As with all MOTIV equipment the PRIMAL hits HARD with great carry.

Ball: MOTIV Primal TV4

Core: Thrust

Previous Balls with Core: TX1, TR2, TZ3

Layout Used: 50x4 3/4x50

Pin Placement: Above fingers by 0.5" and centered

Out of Box: 2000 grit

Observations:

The Primal is the newest ball in the MOTIV line. It uses the proven Thrust core wrapped inside a brand new coverstock that I know will turn some heads. I chose to try the ball on two different sets of conditions. On a THS (typical house shot) which at my center is the USBC Blue pattern, I am able to start out playing an area of 18 to 8 and hit the pocket with insurmountable force. The ball glides cleanly through the heads and midlane and reads the backends aggressively making the shape up off the break point much more angular than any other ball I have from MOTIV, including the SR2 (same layout). To decrease the angularity provided by the layout, all that is needed is a small surface tweek to 1000 grit and it evens the backend reaction a bit.

On the second condition, a freshly run PBA Chameleon pattern I found the Primal to be similar in motion. I was able to play 15-8 with the ball and still have a diffinitive move up off the break point into the pocket. The ball still got down lane very well for me with its box surface and even provided me area left and right of target on the sport oil. That's a difference from the house oil as there was only miss room left on the THS. I like the shape of the ball as it travels down the lane and the strong aggressive read off the break point. MOTIV has created another winner with this ball. This ball is a good fit if you're looking for something between the Cruel and TR2 as far as aggressiveness potential but the hook shape resembles that of the SR2.

Overall reaction:  I drilled the ball 50 x 5 x 40 with no extra hole.  My favorite layout it puts the pin above my ring finger with slight kick of the cg.  With this drilling, I get a ball that revs up very quick in the midlane and and a controllable backend reaction.  The new Vicious Pearl cover is extremely strong and consistent.

Very impressed with the latest release from MOTIV!!

This bowling ball features the proven performance of the "Thrust" core with the new Vicious reactive pearl coverstock.

I did a very simple 4 1/2" from pap stack with no extra hole. For those of you who like to use the dual angle method, approximately a 70-4 1/2"-60.

This ball showed "Thrust" core characteristics wanting to rev up very easily off the hand, and read the mid-lane very predictably. What really sets the Primal apart from others prior to it, is the downlane motion that the new cover creates. The more angular and more continuous backend motion of the Primal makes it a fantastic weapon against carrydown, or when you want to open the lane up a little bit on late tournament squads or second shift leagues.

Overall, the Primal is about 3 or 4 boards weaker than the TR2, but the downlane motion and the fact that it's very eye-catching make this ball VERY appealing!

Personally, this is my favorite MOTIV bowling ball so far, and I can't wait to see what's next!

Bowler Stats-Ball Speed 17 MPH Rev Rate-App 280 Axis of Rotation-30 to 60 degrees Axis Tilt 21 degrees Right Handed

The Primal TV4 ball is designed for medium oil patterns. The ball performs as advertised. It pushes through the heads with ease as on fresh shots as well as clearing heads that are starting to burn up relatively easily. As the ball gets to the midlane the core starts to take over, a little later then the Cruel C51, and you can visually see the ball rev (thanks to the Neomark graphics) up. As the ball finds the friction an arcy change of direction. For me the pins stay low. I am able to use the TV4 playing down the boards as well as swinging it out to the dry or deep inside as long as I can find some trace of oil in the hads. The ball recovers well.  There are two times I found the ball struggles.  On heavily oiled fresh shots and on shots where the length of the pattern starts to play shorter late in the tournament day.

I've seen the ball perform well on a 41 foot Kegal Turnpike Pattern where it actually gave me room to the right (relative to the other players) and I've thrown in on fresh THS on both Wood and AMF Synthetics. The Primal, just like the Cruel, does not seem to have a surface preference as it reacted well on all surfaces.

If you use this ball as designed on medium patterns or after the shot has started to break down, it is a very effective ball. .

The TV4 gives Motiv a piece of equipment for Motiv believers between the Cruel and the QZseries. The one big advantage the Primal has for me over the Cruel it the ability to move deep (inside 4th arrow) and throw it right and still have it recover without burning up. I'm very colorblind but I've heard from multiple bowlers that the ball is very pleasing to the eye and will give it good shelf appeal.

I´m playing about 16,5 miles and about 500 rpm, tendency to push the balls a little to much.
I drilled it with a 36 * 5-1/16 * 64 Layout - pin under ringfinger, CG kicked out, x-hole on P3
The proven core revs up early in the mids but instead of a smooth motion like TR2 (even polished) you will get a strong, controlled move to the pocket and awesome hitting power. The coverstock seems to be the best combination with the core so far. I´ve also played the TR2 and TZ3 Int. both balls are made from motiv with other intentions but the Primal is the best out of this series. I played several series with this ball and posted a 788 yesterday with a 300 1st game.
This Ball is fun - If you´re looking for a ball with a rolly, angular motion - give this ball a chance you won´t regret.
Thanks to Scott from Motiv Bowling giving me the possibility throwing such great products

The Primal TV4 is the newest release from MOTIV.
The Primal TV4 offers the proven Thrust core found in three previous
MOTIV releases the TX1,TR2,TZ3.The Thrust core in the 15lb.ball offers
a RG of 2.54 which is in the medium low area.
The differential in the 15lb. version is .052. Also in the medium area.
The coverstock is the newest creation from MOTIV called Vicious
Pearl Reactive.
The coverstock color is Silver Pearl/Black Pearl with yellow graphics.
The coverstock is wet sanded with Abralon to 2000 &polished with
MOTIV Power Gel Polish.

My comments:
What I got from the Primal TV4,was a ball that cleared the heads
with relative ease. Then when the Primal encountered the mids it
was then that the ball started the very heavy revs. When the Primal
hit the friction at the back of the patterns the reaction was really
dynamic,yet controlled.I didn't get any over reaction.
The Primal  saves up most of its energy for this backend motion which
was very defined.
When the lanes  started to see push,is when the Primal TV4
really stared to shine. This ball is in its element with push. The energy
the ball saved for the backend is perfect for push.
The Primal TV4 is best suited for medium-medium oil.And flatter
patterns.
The Tweeners and Strokers will be love this ball.It will allow them
to move left on the THS and see recovery and a heavy roll to the
pocket.
But you Crankers not need to be afraid of this ball.Let me state;this ball
will let you move far enough left to avoid the burn you encounter
from the Tweeners and Strokers. The Primal TV4 creates enough area
that you can go around the others, and not worry about the push.
Because the backend motion this ball creates loves push.
The only condition to keep the Primal away from is extreme wet,
and extreme dry.
