- RG DIFFERENTIAL: 16#-.040, 15#-.043, 14#-.043, 13#-.047, 12#-.050, 11#-.18, 10#-.13
- FLARE POTENTIAL: 4"+ (Medium)
- HOOK POTENTIAL: 39 (High)
- LENGTH: 25 (Medium)
- DESCRIPTION: The MOTIV QZ1 will scorch the competition on medium oil with the new Quadfireâ„¢ inner core and new MOTIVator-Z reactive urethane cover.
Quadfire Inner Core
The new Quadfire inner core produces an RG that stores energy for the backend reaction and a differential for controlled track flare. The 15# ball has an RG rating of 2.55 and differential of .043.
MOTIVator-Z Reactive Urethane
The shell on the QZ1 Quadfire is our new MOTIVator-Z reactive urethane. The Purple Pearl QZ1 is 1000 wet sanded and then polished with Power Gel. This gives the Purple Pearl ball a slightly earlier read on the lane than the Red Pearl ball.
Reverb Outer Core
The Reverb outer core of the QZ1 is a low-density polyester resin with pin piercing hardness and strength. Rather than absorb impact energy, this outer core reverberates energy as it explodes through the pins.
NeoMark Reactive Urethane Graphics
The Purple Pearl QZ1 coverstock is integrated with Silver Pearl NeoMark logo graphics. These graphics are also formulated from MOTIVator-Z reactive urethane so you have a consistent reaction 360° around the ball surface.

 MOTIV:QZ1 Purple

My Information:
Ball Speed:15/16 mph,Rev Rate:250/265 rpm's,
Axis Rotation:45 Degrees,Axis Tilt:15 Degrees,

Specs on ball tested:
70/40 @ 2 3/4, X-Hole on PAP 7/8"bit, 2 1/4" deep,
Ball Surface:1000 wet sanded with Power Gel Polish,

The all new MOTIVator-Z cover and,the all new Quadfire
core creates a ball motion that gets the QZ1 through
the heads, but creates good revs at the mids and a smooth arcing reaction at the breakpoint.
The medium RG and the medium Diff.helps the QZ1 achieve this look.
When using the QZ1 on a fresh house shot, this ball
allowed me to play just inside the oil line, with a swing
area of about 3-5 boards more than usual on THS.

Sanding the QZ1 to 1500 and applying Power Gel Polish
allowed me to square up to the oil line and just let
it roll out to the breakpoint without forcing it to
the spot. Now the smooth arcing nature was perfect for all
3 games on a THS.The smooth look at the breakpoint is what you should be looking for on your THS.

The QZ1 really shines when the lanes had 3-6 games
bowled on them during tournaments. With the shot being wide open the QZ1 was in it's element. You could swing it out wider without fear that it would jump at the backend.
The controlled arcing motion was a perfect match for
this type of condition.

The QZ1 was about 2-3 boards less hook than the SR2.
Track Flare was about 4"
The best condition for the QZ1 is medium oil to
medium patterns.
Heavier and longer patterns do not match up well with
the QZ1.

Anyone looking for pure performance in a mid-price ball should have a QZ1 in their bag.

Thanks MOTIV,
Angela Wilt

Stats:  Cranker
Speed:  17-18 mph at the pins
Rev Rate: about 400, never checked, just taking a guess
PAP: 4.5 Right, .5 down
Side note:  Inverted Tracker

Layout of the ball:  Used the control layout.
Surface of the ball:  OOB

First please bare with me, this is my first review of a ball.

First off, I have about 25 games on this ball right now.  So I am finally getting to know it's strengths and its weaknesses.  Right off the bat I noticed that the carry is unbelievable.  In those 25 games, I think I left about ten 10 pins.  I am more likely to leave a solid 8, or solid 9.  Along with a handful of 4 pins, just for the fact this ball is stronger then I think with the layout.

First night out, was on a typical BZ house shot. Started out playing right around 17, out to about 10.  Very smooth reaction, with the surface I really thought that it would grab sooner.  But got pretty good length and rolled up strong, nothing crazy on the backs.  Was actually surprised that I got a chance to really not have to make the big jump left like everyone else.  Lucky me I got to try this out on a night when we where bowling guys that really got on the ball.  So not making that big move left was a total shock to me, and the guys we where bowling.  Also what I noticed I had some messengers that looked like they where shot out of a cannon.  I think my final move of the night was moving to 20 at the arrows, and about 10 at the break point.  For me I was very excited with the fact I was not deeper then the 5 th arrow for the night.  Big Bonus!

Second night of using the ball all three games.  Not an easy house, can give you fits if you miss your target.   I would say that this night was the typical reverse block, with extreme out of bounds.  Once again started the night right around 17 to about 12.  Starting to actually get used to squaring up with this ball.  Start out, 247, with a solid 8, and a solid 9. Everything else was flush with excellent carry, made a move the 10th frame.  Moving my target in a bit, due to the quick drying of my line.  Second game have my target at 20 and using the same break point.  I lose the line a little, and go 192.  I  hate to do it, but I take a big step left. Moving my target, 25 at the arrows, and 10 at the break point.  Really needing to get around everyone, this seemed to be the right move.  Was really surprised that the ball still had enough energy to carry covering this many boards.  Think I really had some guy noticing the power of the Q on and around the lanes.  I end up shooting 234, for a 673 series.  I know that its not a huge number, but at a place where the top averages are about 20-30 pins lower then at other houses, it a big pat on the back for me!  Like a guy on the pair next to us, 670 is like 750 plus at other houses.

All in all, I am really finding that this Purple QZ is really a nice piece.  I was worried with the low drilling, and the lower then normal pin.  But have to give props to my driller of the ball.  Thanks Justin Wyman, you know what you are doing.  I hope to post pics and some videos of this ball.  Now I just have to figure out what surface preps I have to do to my Red QZ and my GT1.

If you have an question, please ask.  Thanks for taking time out reading my review, and give a upstart company a try!

Picked this baby up a couple of days ago and punched it this morning.  This is an awesome ball with a nice smooth arc.  I stacked it 4" X 4" with an extra hole 2 1/4" below by PAP on the VAL.  The Motivator-Z coverstock is much more aggressive than the original Motivator-X that was on the SX1 and TX1.  This one really comes of the spot hard once it gets to the dry.  With the 1000 box finish and polished with Motiv's Power Gel, it looks like a "matte" finish and still bites very well when playing through oil.

From the reaction I was getting today, I will safely say that this ball will be great on Sport or PBA Experience patterns.  Also a great ball for playing your typical house shot as it is very controllable and hits very hard!

Great job MOTIV!  Keep 'em comin' !!!!!

Lefty
PAP: -6 1/8 horizontal x +3/16 vertical
Axis Rotation: 0-45 degrees
Axis Tilt: 3-16 degrees
Ball Speed: 13-17 mph

Let me say first that this ball SHOCKED me with its ease of length and overall hook.

My intention for this ball was Shark pattern.  Typically, my struggle is producing length without sacrificing angle.  Too much angle and it's corner pin city, but too little and the five pin might be staring you in the face.

On the Shark the only time I've bowled on it since drilling this ball it was too much to square up as much as I like to.  For players who like to throw the ball hard on these type of patterns or who like to play a bit deeper than I this ball would be perfection.  Personally, I prefer to play as straight as possible on Shark.

The house shot is great for both of the QZ1 balls.  This one allows me to get way inside the wet/dry line and just slow roll it at the dry.  As long as I don't throw it too hard, it is great for that line of attack.

While I have thrown this ball with box surface, it is my opinion that it is best at about 2000 grit.  That gets it to pick up just a bit earlier and thus the entry angle is less finicky.  Any duller and it is too early to be playable the way I prefer to use it.

I am left handed and my speed is between 15-17.

My layout is 4 1/2 x 3 3/8.
My pin is under my fingers and the CG is kicked out with a weight hole.  I drilled this ball just like my Red Qz.  The difference I seen between these balls is that the purple one reads the lane about 3 feet earlier then the red on which is great because I have a great one two punch in my arsenal.  I used this ball on house shots and also on all of the pba patterns except the chameleon and that is because we have not bowled on it yet and I can say that this ball is amazing.  It is a very versatile ball and I kept the same box finish and I love this ball very much.  I would say that this ball gets in trouble on really tight patterns and it is ok because it is not made for those kinds of patterns.  I recommend this ball for people who don't want to spend a lot of money on a ball and still want a ball that hooks.  It is a great mid price ball and you  will not be disappointed with this ball.  GET MOTIVATED!!!!

Drilled this ball 2 weeks ago with a 5 inch pin just below the bridge. This ball reads the mid lane a few feet sooner that the Red QZ1 and gives me a nice strong arc at the back. Pin carry has been very good. This ball works great on medium conditions. On the THS the Purple QZ1 doesn't give me that over under condition that you see at the start of the night. The QZ1 line gives you a nice 1-2 combo. Start with the Purple and switch to the Red as the lanes dry out. Heavy oil is the only condition that may give this ball problems. But that is not what this ball was designed for, Motiv has other equipment for that. This ball competes very well with the higher priced balls on performance.

Had this ball for over a month now, so feel I can give it a nice honest review.  Being my first Motiv ball wanted to get a real feel for the ball.  Not just come in and say first time out through so many strike, blah blah.

Drilled it to be my benchmark ball 55x4.5x45 pin ended up just above the ring finger, no weight hole needed.  What I got a was very smooth rolling ball. We bowl on a light/med oil condition.  There is a "wall" out around the 2nd board, but don't think about getting this ball that far or your through the nose or beyond.

I've found the reaction on the QZ1 Purple to be a nice smooth arc to the pocket.  Start night with feet on 25 and slowly move left.  Plays many lines for me but by far the best line with drill pattern and my med rev rate and speed is the 13 out to 7.  As the night progresses I am able to move left slightly and keep up with the lanes.  If the ball starts to jump through the heads to much I move out just a bit farther and it plays 15 to 10 just as nice.

Pros - Smooth arc reads lanes great
     - Gives me a good look at the lanes without over/under I see from other equiptment
     - Hits very hard.  I carry more shots with QZ1 then Nomad Prl, Rogue Cell and LevRg Response
     - Has ability to make it back if missed outside (but this may be neg. as it comes in VERY hard and splits more then not)
     - Coverstock is very easy to keep clean compared to other balls in bag

Negatives - Carries more shots but also splits more shots then other balls.
          - Touch speed sensitive, smooth speed and its great, to fast it doesn't turn over as well (but thats operator error not ball)
          - Leaves a LOT of 10 pins for me.  Seems ball does 3 things for me STRIKE-SPLIT-10 Pin.  But can't argue with that I guess.

Overall it is a great ball at its price point.  Easily fit into the bag as a benchmark ball.  I would definitely recommend this ball to any of our customers.  Since switching to the QZ1 Purple as benchmark I have made it through MOST nights without going to ball change come 3rd game.  It's helped me maintain a 198 average in a very tough scoring house (only 3 bowlers in all leagues carrying higher average then mine, highest being 209).

Drilled up the QZ1 and was amazed right off the bat. I put the pin above the bridge at 12 and the cg under the ring finger has been one of my favorite layouts for sometime.  What it did on this ball was gave me great length with a very strong smooth roll on the back end with tons of hitting power. Motiv is making some of the best equipment around. Keep up the great work

I just drilled this ball and must say that it shocked me. It is drilled 4x4, pinned up. I throw right handed with descent speed and revs. This ball gets through the heads clean with a great continuous motion in the backend. I have thrown it on a regular house shot being able to hook the lane or play up the boards. I have also thrown it on Kegel's Broadway pattern where the ball played great. I did not have any over under or issues with the ball not making it back.
I will keep it simple this ball is very good for most lane conditions, I look forward to their next release! Scott keep up the great work!

Layout: 4 in pin above and right of middle finger, box finish

This ball suprised me at how strong it was when I first threw it.  With the combo of this layout and the ball, it gives me a very strong move at the break point and reads the lanes a little earlier than the other QZ1's I've punched up.  Unless the pattern is HEAVY or DRY, I like to pull this ball out first and start with it.  It allows me to read the lanes well and decide what to use according to what this ball is doing.  It's my benchmark ball now.  I can start with this one then ball down to the QZ1red's when it starts going too soon and i've gotten so far left that the corner doesn't get the memo to fall over.

It has been awhile since I have posted a review but this ball really has shocked me.I bought the ball used from a gentleman on here.Came highly polished and the pin centered above the fingers. Not sure what the layout is called.I just bowl with them.I left the layout the same and only changed the span on the thumb.Bowled with it Wed. night league and had a bit of trouble at first. The polish made it go a little longer than I expected but I kept using it and slowing the speed down to give the ball time to make it's move.I have a fairly nice swing shot and play from 15 out to about 7 and the ball had no trouble making it back to the pocket as long as I kept my speed in check. Not sure about the type of shot they put out but I believe it's a longer pattern with medium-medium heavy oil. It's a nice shot, very playable but I could tell the ball needed a bit more surface to move a bit quicker as I tend to over throw the ball when I have to keep my speed down.I had to bowl last night in one of my least favorite houses. The shot they put out is pretty horrible.Backends are not clean and it forces you to play a more direct line because the balls tend to burn up and roll out. It's like bowling on sludge.Well I took the ball down just a bit before I went to the lanes with a used 2000 abralon pad using the cross hatch method.I started the night with my Mean Machine which is a pretty beat up and old ball but the backend is still there.I got to the 10th frame of the first game when I decided to switch to the QZ1.I struck out in the tenth to finish with a 201.Okay game but happy with the ball reaction.I started the second game with the QZ1 sending the ball from the 20th board out to the ten board. The ball was golden from there on as I struck out for my 5th(300).Been nearly 3 years since I've had one.Overall I shot 730 for the night.Very happy with my game and even happier with the ball.Motiv....if you haven't tried one,you should.I am very impressed and I want to thank Jack Hoskins Sr.for selling it to me.God bless you for not only being a great seller on here but for getting me Motiv-ated.

BALL SPECS

Pin Length: 3-4"

Starting Top Weight: 2.9 oz.

Ball Weight: 16 lbs.

DRILL PATTERN

50 x 4 x 70

Extra Hole: 7/8 bit drilled 2.5" deep, placed 2" below axis on my VAL.

BOWLER STYLE

Rev Rate: 350

Ball Speed: 18.5-19 mph

PAP/Track: 3 3/8 left, 5/8 up

SURFACE PREP

Grit: 1000 abralon

Type: (Matte, Polish, Sanded): polished

LANE CONDITION

Length: 40 feet

Volume: light

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): THS

BALL REACTION

Length: easy length through the front

Back End: smooth, gradual shape

Overall Hook: More total hook than the other QZ balls (QZ Red, and QZ2), but not as much as the new QZ2 Backdraft.

Midlane Read: more midlane than the other QZ balls, but not as much as the new QZ2 Backdraft. The main reason the purple QZ has more midlane read is the surface prep. This one is 1000 w/ polish whereas the QZ Red is 2000 w/ polish and QZ2 is 4000 w/polish.

Breakpoint Shape: smoother than the other QZ releases I have thrown. It's a shape that's predictable and easy to read.

COMMENTS

Likes: Drilled to play the track area and out. This core/cover and drilling allow me to do just that. I can easily manipulate this piece's reaction which makes it a possibility on any "medium" lane condition and some shorter/lighter volume conditions.

Dislikes: Doesn't like a lot of volume and anything beyond medium will force this ball back into the bag. there are plenty of options in our line up though for the slicker stuff.

I have this ball and love it. I'm very picky on which ball company and which balls I use. I have 7 different motiv balls and love them all. This qz1 I have is drilled with the pin above the fingers and cg in the middle of the palm. This makes this purple qz1 to have a real nice arc to it and not the skid flip like all the other motiv I have do. When my tz3 goes to long I pull this ball out and have the same amount of hook but it hooks sooner since it arcs hard. 4000 abalone sanded and highly polished. great ball. Thanks motiv I'm a believer in your company.
