The Motiv Venom bowling ball line continues with the bold Black Venom mid-performance bowling ball. This ball takes the Leverage coverstock from the Jackal Ambush and modifies it to maximize performance when bowling on light to medium oil conditions. The Leverage MFS Solid Reactive coverstock is paired with the Gear APG weight block to create an earlier and more powerful reaction. The Black Venom was designed to have more reaction, more traction, and a smoother motion than the Venom Shock. The Gear APG core is asymmetric with a low RG and low differential offering a variety of drilling possibilities.

Black balls always roll best...

I drilled this ball with a 5" pin to PAP x 3" MB to PAP x 4" pin buffer.

So...I was excited, but skeptical about this one at the same time.  I haven't LOVED Gear APG Core balls as much as others (i.e. Blue Coral Venom, Venom Recoil).  They were more situational for me, but have been GREAT for many others, so I thought about changing up the layout to something I have never used.

I thought that this would be a great layout because the weaker pin and longer pin buffer would help the ball float more through the front of the lane and not be too forward too early.  The lower differential and asymmetry allowed me to use a stronger MB to ensure that the ball tips over and be very controlled downlane.

WOW...this thing made the BEST impression on me of any ball I've ever thrown, regardless of any manufacture.  Whatever the R&D team did with the new Leverage MFS cover around the Black Venom just made this ball magical.  First game out of the box...300.  It allows me to play straighter and blends the wet/dry on house nicely.  On sport patterns, it's GREAT because it's something that allows me to control the pocket, and still goes through the pins.

I'll definitely be drilling multiples of this one.

This ball is the ball we have been needing forever! This Black Venom is very predictable, controllable, and is the benchmark ball everyone has to have! This Leverage MFS cover reads the midlane very well, is very strong, smooth, and continuous! And adding the Gear APG core with it with its low diff but extra strength makes this one killer combination! You are going to want one of these!

Layout - 5x4x3 Vector layout (translates to 45x5x50 Dual Angle)
PAP - 5 1/8 Over
1 5/16 Up

In the times of everything being longer and stronger, the Black Venom slots in as earlier and more forward. When compared to the Venom Shock, the Black starts up sooner, is smoother at the breakpoint and shapes a bit more forward, it makes the Venom Shock look angular.

Use cases: The smoother and softer shape down lane makes the Black Venom well suited on Medium to Shorter Sport Patterns where you are looking for control off the spot and not covering the whole lane. On house patterns it's less sensitive to the wet dry than the faster balls in the Motiv line up, and therefore matches up really well on Medium to Drier house patterns.

Compliments: For me the Black Venom is a great starting piece on medium to dryer patterns, when you find a longer pattern, and/or more volume, you'll find balls like the Forge Ember and the Jackal line more in play on the fresh. When the Black Venom isn't generating enough entry angle but seems to be hooking an appropriate amount, i've found the Venom Shock to be the ball to slot in, it's a little longer and much sharper at the breakpoint. The Blue Coral is longer, and a little faster off the spot than the Black, but still a bit forward downlane, if you like the shape of the Blue and want something a little stronger, the Black is the ball. Balling down opens the door for the Ripcord Launch to shine, and it'll be obvious as the Black Venom is a little slow down lane for really opening up angles, so clean, angular pieces become better options at that point.

Additional Thoughts: In a time where many of the new balls are cleaner, and more angular, the Black Venom goes in the opposite direction. This ball is early, it's smooth, and it's more predictable. It isn't going to be the flashy shape, but it offers out of trouble motion, and on shorter patterns is really the type of ball you'll want to start with. I bowled the Open Championships this year, and despite some operator error struggles, the Black Venom was my most used, and the best scoring ball I used out there because I was able to know it was going to slow down, and off hits were more often a flat ten instead of a 2-8-10, and in the doubles set, the ball gave me a look no one else on my pair had and I was high in that set with it.

Black Venom is available today, check out your local pro shop to pick one up, and if you have any questions on the Black Venom, or anything Motiv please let me know.

Who doesn't love a black bowling ball and this one will not disappoint. Combining the Ambush coverstock with the gear core creates a mid lane medium oil MONSTER. This piece fits well between the OG shock and new primal shock and will fit your bag for house as well as competitive conditions. For me a pinch stronger and sharper angles when stepping up from the primal shock this piece gives me the added angle I need to create to carry the ten when that initial transition happens! Dont miss this one  reach out to order your today!

The Black Venom from Motiv says it all in the name. It's a Black Venom. Has anybody thrown a poor black bowling ball? Im not sure it exists, but I can say for sure this isn't a poor one. Right off the Press I shot 815 with a 300 and a 290 game.

What I see with the Black Venom is a perfect complimentary piece to both the Venom Shock and Primal Shock. I also see it in the complimentary roll on the ASYM side of my bag as a ball up from the Pride Empire and more a lateral shift as oppose to a ball down to my OG Pride.

I personally went with a taller pin layout and for optical reference as everybodies numbers would be different - the CG is in the ring finger about 3.5 inches below the pin. My PAP is 3 15/16 Over - 1/2 Up

Length:41

Volume:19-22

Type:THS

Likes: Very Predictable. When the shock is just a tad too much the black venom is the perfect go to. Also allows to you to start right and just transition left without having to ball change. I added polish to mine and it allowed it to get through the mids with a ton of angle on the back without losing energy.
