best motiv ball for me
« on: July 05, 2014, 04:40:11 PM »
What would you suggest. I am looking for a ball I can throw down and in. I am almost blind and do not want to throw the ball out and have it come back in. I want to throw it down about the 5-7 board and have it come in.  I have average speed and would assume average revs.
Thanks

Without knowing the specific lane conditions, you're bowling on, there are a few general suggestions I can think of right off the top.  For medium, definitely the Sigma Sting.  It's a pearl that's clean through the front, reads the mids well, and is a bit angular on the back.  Think more hard arc.  The great thing about this ball is that in the short time I've had it is the versatility.  It's a true benchmark piece that will allow you to play straighter as you want, or hook the entire lane like EJ Tackett did with both of his Sigma Stings during the Japan Cup.

Medium-Heavy, I'd go with either the Covert Revolt if you want something smooth in reaction or the Primal Rage if you want skid/flip.

For lighter conditions, there always is the Venom Strike (solid), Venom Toxin (hybrid), and then the Tribal (pearl).  The Toxin can most likely be bought for a good deal as it will probably be replaced by the upcoming Tribal Fire.

You should have no problem with it.  The Primal Rage uses the same Fusion Pearl reactive cover that the Sigma Sting uses and I can go down and in very easily with that ball. Big difference is that the Primal Rage is going to be a little more angular in back and can handle additional volume.

Haven't posted in awhile but needed to give a shout out and a thanks to Tommyboy74.

I have been reading his posts on the Sigma Sting and being a strong Storm/Roto guy like he is, was reluctant to try something else as these 2 brands have really worked for my style( after years of trial and error with other brands)

Well I'm glad I listened as I feel the Sting maybe the best all around medium league THS condition ball I have ever thrown. Until I thru this ball, that statement was reserved for my 2 victory road solids with different drilling/surfaces.

The Sigma Sting has now taken the spot of those 2. What an outstanding ball! You know what's it's going to do shot after shot. Hits really hard with great predictability.

Thanks again TommyBoy74 for your posts on the Sigma Sting! It was the first, but won't be my last Motiv ball.

Gonz- you're certainly welcome and I'm glad I could help.  The big thanks for me actually goes to Matt Fortney.  He helped point me in the right direction with any questions I had about Motiv and went over some arsenal ideas I had.

I hadn't thought about Motiv until earlier this year actually. The reason I decided to take a look is because of the good things I've read on here and from what I saw on the shows over the past year.  When I saw the Primal Rage, and then more about the Covert Revolt and the Sigma Sting, I knew it was time to try the brand out.  I'm glad I did as I think I'll be converting my arsenal as needed.

Well, bowlers on the pro tour that have thrown the Primal Rage say the continuation on the backend is very impressive.

I own several Motiv balls and have thrown mostly Motiv since I got a "free" GT1 at the BTM Super School a few years ago.

The Primal Rage is a good ball, Covert Revolt is really nice for an oiler, Venom Strike and Venom Shock are stronger than advertised and work great. I love the 2 Cruel, Cruel Intent, Raptor Talon, Primal TV4 and Primal Scream. I had good success with the original Cruel, TX1 and SR2.

But to put it simply, the Sigma Sting is the best ball I have ever thrown from ANY manufacturer.
