Best Motiv dry ball
« on: May 23, 2015, 07:55:31 PM »
What is the best Motiv ball for dry lanes?  Is there anything truly weak that won't jump hard off the dry?  Is the rebel tank going to be this ball?

Dry lanes is a bad way to ask because it means different things to different people. Do you want something for short oil? Low volume? Or burned up conditions because that could be different balls.
I see the Rebel Tank being a short oil ball but not a "burned" condition ball. There I would want something very clean with a lot of recovery. On a low volume shot I would want something cleaner and smoother.  Just my opinion

So what is the best bet on low volume or burnt? The Ascent?

I would also ask what are you stepping down from?  You could get different suggestions depending on the strength of ball you are initially using.  So what is your weakest ball or what is the ball you are stepping down from?

Also, how comfortable are you moving in deep versus just going weaker and weaker in ball strength and trying to stay direct and outside?

Stepping down from a TAG. And up from Arctic Sniper.   I think I'm going to go for an Ascent pearl and the rebel tank.  From what I have seen it looks like they are different enough to fill a couple of roles.

I can get inside fine but would rather stay straighter on some conditions if I could.  I was hoping the TAG would be the ball that let me get deeper inside but so far the ball is not angular enough and not enough backend to allow that to happen.  Thinking about changing the layout or putting a weighthole to increase the flare.  Or maybe I'll just keep it as a step down to a weaker reaction from my sigma sting. My inside angular ball is my polishied Octane with a Motion hole.

Ascent Apex would be my choice or the Tank.

I have a Tank and to call it weak isn't really fair. The strong core combined with the Urethane cover can be really aggressive. For example in my house for sport league I can use the Tank on short patterns for the look I want (provided they clean the approach and I can hit the line like normal) but if it's burned up the Tank is way too strong. Interested in the Rebel Tank but time will tell.

I have used the arctic sniper for this. A lot more control than any reactive. You just sacrifice a little pin carry, but that's not to say you can't strike a lot.

That said, the rebel tank should be the answer. I'm just waiting for mine to be drilled. Should have it tomorrow. I had some success throwing my sniper on fresh around the first arrow at the one house, so I suspect the rebel tank will be even better.

If said house does not modify it's shot next season (a lot of back end there), the balls I am taking for league will be a pin down tag at 1000-1500 grit, a pin up tag at box finish, a rebel tank, and a polished arctic sniper for spares.
