Motiv Golden Jackal video and written review
« on: February 09, 2019, 12:23:38 AM »

First of all, I declare myself a huge fan of the original Jackal. When I first got it I felt like I was cheating since the ball always worked great for me. When I found out about the release of a pearlized Jackal I got excited and fortunately the Golden Jackal lives up to its name.

We tried this ball on our typical house shot and the ball does exactly as advertised. The Golden Jackal is clean through the front part of the lane, with a strong, angular backend motion.

What makes this ball unique is that the Predator V3 core provides a strong midlane read, making it more controllable and stronger than other asymmetrical pearls in the market, and somehow, the Golden Jackal still have tons of energy to make a strong move down the lane.

The Golden Jackal is an easy ball to read. After a couple of shots I realized that I needed to play deeper than usual since the combination of core and coverstock is quite strong to play around my comfort zone. Once I got lined up and found the breakpoint, I got really, really comfortable with this ball.

The Golden Jackal allowed me to swing the ball to watch it come back from almost anywhere. Misses outside offered a lot of recovery, I just had to make sure to not miss outside too soon. Misses inside were almost as effective as misses inside. The Hexion SE coverstock digs through the oil and has a strong move when it finds some friction.

As you can see in the video review, I was able to play different parts of the lane and the Golden Jackal always had a strong downlane reaction. It is definitely a versatile piece.

This ball will be a great option when you need to create more shape down the lane in medium and heavy oil conditions. The Golden Jackal will be a great step down from balls like the Trident Abyss or the Forge and a natural step up from other pearlized balls in the lineup like the Rogue Blade or the Villain Scorn.

Overall I feel this is a great addition to the Motiv lineup. This is the first pearlized Jackal since the original and I think the guys at Motiv did a great job with this release.

This is by far the most angular piece in the Jackal line and it provides a shape that Motiv was lacking of.

Low speed and low rev bowlers will love this ball. The Golden Jackal provides easy length and a strong motion in the last part of the lane.

High speed and high rev bowlers will be able to play from almost any part of the lane without sacrificing carry even from steeper angles.

Tournament bowlers will find in the Golden Jackal a great piece for the transition in flat patterns and sport shot conditions.

Thank you for watching!

Where would this ball fit in relation to the OG venom shock

The shock (All pun intended) should fit as a step down (or 2) from the Golden Jackel, as the Jackel is a good piece to use when the Trident Abyss is too early/ too much/ leaving flat corner pins.

Thank you for your comments guys! We appreciate them  :D

The Venom Shock is as lefty said, a good 2 ball step down from the Golden Jackal. The Venom Shock is earlier, smoother and has a slower response to friction. Overall, the Golden Jackal might be at least 4 to 5 boards stronger than the Shock.

Two completely different shapes and for different conditions. The Shock is great on most medium oil patterns, it can be a good option for heavier volumes with a surface adjustment and same on lighter conditions with some polish. The Golden Jackal is better suited for medium and heavier volumes of oil.

Thanks for the input on the golden jackal vs the venom shock. I was curious where the venom shock pearl would fit ?

Venom Shock Pearl is weaker, cleaner and more angular than the Shock. Way smoother than the Golden Jackal and at least 7-8 boards weaker.

Thanks for the input I'll probably go with the VSP first to go with the OG shock because most of my bowling is done on very old wood lanes med to dryer conditions. I will probably get the golden jackal for the very few times they put down the heavy oil.

if you don’t see a lot of oil where you bowl then you can’t go wrong with the VSP to complement your Venom Shock. Surface prep and a different layout will give you a bigger gap between the two, though just the cover will do that for you. If you get to bowl in oily conditions then the Golden Jackal will be a good option as well.
