Closest thing in Motiv line-up
« on: September 24, 2014, 10:48:03 AM »
I am currently bowling a THS league in a new house. While I am bowling well, I am not overjoyed at the look I have. I am currently throwing an original Reax Pearl, with the cover @ 4000 Abralon by hand. Most of my issues are with leaving corner pins (and a nice solid pocket 7-9 this week, I'm RH btw, lol). At times the ball just seems to go slightly long and I wind up leaving solid 10's (6 pin going right around the bottom of the 10 most times). If I do try to adjust then I wind up leaving mixer 7's or weak 10's if I move left, and solid 9's if I move right. I have been wanting to try Motiv again (had a 2 Cruel that I really didn't like, didn't roll well for me) and was wondering what in their current line-up would be similar to the Reax Pearl, but might help me smooth out the reaction a little bit to help with carry. I was leaning towards a Venom Shock or a Tribal Fire. Would appreciate your thoughts.

Also, one side of the house seems to hook a lot more then the other, so what would be a good step down from whatever you recommend above? I was thinking original Tribal or maybe Octane. Thanks again.

I'd say go sigma sting and ascent apex. Most similar to the reax pearl would be either the cruel intent or the new jackal coming out

SVstar,
Thanks. I have been looking at the Jackyl, but was thinking it might be too strong. I will probably shy away from the Cruel Intent after my experience with the 2 Cruel. Not sure if it was the cover or core that really just didn't work for me.

I think the jackal would be stronger also but it would be the most similar reaction wise.
I'd say in strength terms the Primal Rage and Sigma Sting are closest, and the Sting would be the smoother of the 2

Seems like maybe moving to a symmetrical core might be a better option.  Sigma Sting would be a great benchmark reaction (though somewhat strong) and the Revolt would give you the earlier and smoother reaction, and a bit stronger than the Sting.

Of the two balls you mentioned I would lean toward the Venom Shock over the Tribal Fire.  I feel the Shock is a little bit stronger than the Tribal Fire and would be closer, strengthwise, to what you currently have.  The Tribal Fire, though a great ball, would give you a shape close to the Reax Pearl and if the intent is to get an earlier first transition, then going to the Venom Shock would be my suggestion.

Can't go wrong with the sigma sting IMO. I'm loving mine. First motiv ball I drilled some the raptor and now motiv is about all I wanna drill.  The Sting is just so good in not gonna mess with drilling another ball until it stops working...got about 40 games on it and I'm loving it. Not very often I get 40 games on a ball before I drill another ball either....

The Sigma Sting is the best ball I have used by ANY company.

Very bold statement. But I'm not sure I can even argue....not sure I could say ever but currently on the market I would tend to agree

I have the Reax pearl and sigma sting. While I completely agree with everyone's sentiments about the sting, I'm not sure you'll get your desired effect. My Reax is earlier and smoother than my sting (as it should be considering its a sanded pearl vs the polished pearl sting).

I've seen you post a few times that you have a hard time putting the Reax pearl down. With that in mind, when was the last time you resurfaced it?
