Forza GT - Any Non-Staffer Thoughts On This Ball?
« on: November 25, 2017, 11:08:50 PM »
I was looking through the reviews on this ball but all but one were by staffers.  I was wondering what the non-staffers thought about this ball.  Good benchmark ball for medium oil THS?

Thanks.

I just drilled one a few weeks ago and I have no idea why it took me so long to get one.  I think it is a great ball for a THS because to me it has a very predictable shape. The time I’ve had it I can play multiple zones and really use it all night.

The GT is a far better ball for a house shot then DDT for most bowlers.  The GT is strong enough to get through carrydown, I bowl league with multiple people throwing urethane so I actually do see it.  If you don’t see volume up front then the DDT is a terrible choice unless you throw smoke.

The first Motiv ball I bought for myself was the octane, since my son liked his so much.  I was not a fan.  I didn’t try Motiv again until a threw a GT at a demo.  I bought one on the spot and I fell in love that season. Very predictable and a strong move to the pocket on house shot. I bought another for reserve when they closed out.  It and the original Forza, are my two favorite Motiv balls I’ve thrown. Great ball.
Current bag:
DV8 Turmoil 2 Pearl
Radical Squatch hybrid
Motiv Forza GT
Hammer Black Widow Gold
DV8 Vandal
DV8 Creed Rebellion

The GT isn't made to open up your angles when you need to jump left. Only Forza made for that would be the Redline. If you really needed to go left to right, if go with a Paranoia. You have to know the balls limitation.

Agree with what is said above.   I love the GT on the left for fresh lanes THS.  Nice control, but still get a strong move.  If I need to move inside, I have a Vengeance for this.
MOTIV Jackal LE .................40 x 4.5 x 40 p2.5
MOTIV Revolt Vengeance......45 x 4.0 x 50 p3
MOTIV Forza GT ..................50 x 4.0 x 70 p2.5
MOTIV Sigma Sting..............50 x 4.0 x 45 p3

Gary--Being that we are both old VBP aficionado's.  I think, I kinda have an idea what seems to match up with you.  Unsure of what you are bowling on now lane condition wise though.

The GT would be a good choice though I prefer the Venom Shock as a benchmark ball for the majority of Motiv users.  The Shock just matches up so well for the majority that it is almost a can't miss ball for so many.  The weight block/cover match up is perfect IMO.

GT and Shock are both on the smooth rolling ball motion of Motiv's ball guide.  They both are close to oil handling ability maybe GT a bit more but not enough to be a full step above.  There is a reason that Motiv continues to keep the Shock in it's line-up after 3 years vs. already replacing the GT.  I do have a Forza SS it's full step above the Shock and probably a 1/2 step above the GT.  They....the Shock and GT plus SS are in the same place in smooth ball motion.  The hybrid GT was better for most than the solid Forza depending on your stats. and amount of volume in the heads and over all. The SS for me is better than the original Forza.  Probably because of the Sigma weight block in the SS.

I see you have your stats. in your profile which is good as not everyone is going to match up the same way as you do nor do they bowl on the lane condition you bowl on so it's all subjective.  This is why I like the Shock it matches up for many more than any other Motiv ball.

Just my take.

I love the shock as much as anyone having 2 of them.  With that said I firmly believe the GT is better suited for most THS. I do believe you will max out the shock going left faster then the GT.

Thanks for the replies.  I will see if I can address some of them in more detail.

Thanks, Scott.

I saw that the GT was on sale, so I was considering picking one up as I have not had a Motiv in a while and I always like benchmark type balls.  Before I read your post, I had already placed the order for one based on a couple of the other replies.

My house went to a shorter pattern this year, 39 ft, and with my health issues, I am having problems with either too much hook or not enough.  I don't think it is the pattern as much as it is with me, but in the past when I was bowling well, patterns in the 37-40 ft range always gave me problems.

I do have the Shock Venom in mind for a future purchase.

Luke,

I didn't mean to imply that all staffer reviews are worthless, but many of them are probably influenced to write more favorably than the average bowler.  I saw a lot of reviews for this ball, 15 actually, but was struck by how only one of them was by a non-staffer.  So I just wanted a few replies by bowlers with no connection to Motiv, other than perhaps their love of the equipment, and that they may be a bit more impartial in their judgement of that equipment.

Lol no I totally get it, believe me, no offense taken whatsoever.  I try to be the anti-staffer because I get where everyone is coming from.  Hard to dig through all the BS when guys are just trying to talk everything up to keep their contracts . .

The GT was OK, I guess better than OK but I never used it that much.  I loved the  the original Forza and didn't use the GT that much.  Too many other choices but the GT did look nice. JMO

I love the GT. Great ball on flatter conditions, decent on a house shot.
