Got this email from Motiv. NOT HAPPY!!!
« on: June 24, 2016, 05:04:08 PM »
Our records show that you registered to receive a Limited Edition Jackal through the Ball Exchange Program.  Do not bring your bowling ball to the pro shop at this time. Hold onto your Jackal or Jackal Carnage.  As you know, we are working with the USBC and are hoping to have both balls reinstated.  If they are reinstated, we will not manufacture the Limited Edition Jackal because you would be able to use your Jackal or Jackal Carnage.

As we have news to report regarding the reinstatement process, we will notify you.  Thank you very much for your patience and support through this process. You are greatly appreciated!

Don't worry. If as many Jackal and Jackal Carnage balls were illegal as Richgels' (I think) article suggested there's no chance they are reinstated.

how illegal was richgels??

I don't remember the exact numbers, but based off some tests he or someone else did they projected like 80%+ or 90%+ of the balls out on the market to be illegal.

I have no idea how accountable that report is, but it didn't sound like a good situation at all for the balls.

richgels is always very honest and no-nonsense....

80-90% is bad.

that means motiv knew about it...

cuz there has to be QC right?

If they don't have a QC program, that would explain it but begs the question why they don't.  If they do have a QC program, then how did all those out of spec balls pass?

I know a person on staff.  he told me they kept using old molds for the cores that where good once while they checked them.  then stopped doing qc as the molds got more use they slipped over legal.  just a bad business decision at the wrong time but I am looking forward to trying some of there stuff this season.

BD they can swap with any current ball or wait for the LE…..Motiv says they are still fighting to get the Jackals reinstated and if that happens no LE.  If not reinstated THEN they will do the LE for the remaining bowlers with Jackals not replaced.

No time table on Motivs losing battle with USBC which leaves a lot of customers hanging out to dry. They may hope several jump off and get the Trident and others with other balls and never need to make a LE.  By dragging it out it spreads out the financial hit.

The situation sucks for Motiv, but is self inflicted. Motiv is quickly losing momentum it seems with bowlers on the handling of this situation going forward.

I agree!!! I know people are mad at usbc but I would be furious with motiv for letting it go out the door. Its like those raised up the "rankings" so quick they got lazy. I personally like their stuff but I would be hard pressed to buy some of their stuff now because of this situation. I feel like they are trying to shift the blame and not do what's right the customer so to speak.  U messed up own up to it make everything right as possible make another big oil hooking ball And move on!

For what it's worth the exchange program is over with so nobody can swap their Jackal or Jackal Carnage for a new ball in the current lineup anymore. Those who chose the Limited Edition replacement have to wait until it's released or the other two balls are reinstated (which isn't happening).

With the Motiv Trident coming, there is really no reason for Motiv to build a Jackal LE.  Just give Jackal and Jackal Carnage owners waiting for the LE a Trident and be done with the whole mess.

If Motiv is somehow able to successfully negotiate with the USBC to get the Jackals reinstated, the people who have already exchanged their Jackals really get the short end of the stick.  Since there was really no true heavy oil ball available, people got a new ball but not anything remotely like what they had.  If it turns out they could have waited and kept their Jackals, that will really be frustrating for them.

so I'd just get a replacement ball. if the Jackal comes off the ban list then u can still use it and u get a free ball out of the deal.

Replacement period ended a while back. You either wait for the LE or your Jackal is reinstated. If you got the replacement already and kept the Jackal you could have picked into two ball deal.

…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

Not quite. You had to turn your Jackal or Jackal Carnage into the pro shop when picking up your replacement ball. Then the pro shop had to drill out the USBC number and dispose of the ball and have proof that they did so. It was/is one of Motiv's requirements for the process. I'm sure some slid by on it but Motiv is trying to make sure that scenario doesn't play out.

Keep in mind NOTHING has changed for those who registered to get an LE ball. MOTIV clearly stated when you registered your Jackal that you would receive an LE ball if and ONLY if the Jackals were NOT reinstated by early Fall. So early fall to me would be September to mid October at the latest.

So...plan on still receiving an LE at this point within the original timeline you were given. If Jackals are reinstated you get to keep your Jackals and use them, if you wanted to not take that chance an exchange program was also available.

That email was a reminder that nothing has changed and to simply hold onto your Jackals and not to bring them to your pro shop.

So.   October at the latest.  For the record, I had to put my ball on the shelf way before last season ended and now you are saying that the same ball could be on the shelf for the 1st 2 months of the new season.  I have personally purchased over 10 balls from the MOtiv line since their inception but,  If I don't get a heavy oil ball replacement, Motiv won't see another dime of my money.  Motiv sometimes one has to take a step back to move forward.

As a PSO, I will not push their product or keep it on the shelf.  I will order one if a customer wants one but I will push any other brand first.  Motiv has done its customer base a real disservice here.  I have several customers that have decided to trade their illegal balls in for the LE and with them stalling puts an even worse taste in their mouths.  I have already had a couple asking what other balls (not Motiv) I would trade the LE for.  They need to just replace the balls and move on.  They are living in a fantasy world if they think USBC will reverse their decision.

FredMassie, Motiv is the one that needs to face reality.  They are the ones that sent the email saying they MAY or MAY NOT replace the ball with an LE.  USBC will never re-instate either Jackal.  Motiv is the one that ultimately started this post.  They have NOT made good on replacing the balls yet.  I do give them credit, for coming clean once they were OUTED by USBC for making ILLEGAL bowling balls.  I will give them credit (for my customers) once they replace the balls they promised to.  Until then, they have no space on my shelves.  What it looks like to me here is they are trying to spread the hurt over multiple quarters to make their numbers look better rather than taking the hit at once and being done with it.  Enough said.

I definitely see your side and opinion...but until that early fall date (When LE's were promised) has passed I think MOTIV has done everything they have promised and could honestly probably do given the circumstances.

cory, you have a bad case of sour grapes. motiv is a business & they are doing what is best for them & their customers . I am only stating that give them some time to extricate the situation.
