Primal Shock - Release date 2/22/23
« on: January 19, 2023, 05:05:12 PM »
Next Motiv ball is the Primal Shock. Its the Primal Rage core with the Venom Shock solid cover. Will be priced close or identical to the Forge Ember.

Cant wait to see this one. Lets hope it rolls as good as I think it will.

Just saw it, it’s visually identical to the Shock. Looking forward to this, it could fill a very big hole in the lineup.

Agreed. Nothing in the current line has an undrilled rg higher than 2.50 (Prides) and 2.51 (Ripcord Launch) (I really don't count the Thrills as to me they are a super niche ball). Motiv needed something with a higher rg to get a different shape downlane from the bigger pieces in the lineup - in my opinion and many of my customers opinions as well.

Couple notes, the ball has the exact same colors as the shock as testing showed the purple was the best for reaction, interesting thing as we normally don't get that detail.

Also RG is high, but differential is very high as well, this leads to layouts causing some fun options with this ball, weaker layouts that lower the diff will see the Primal Shock be a little longer than you'd expect and sharper down lane.

I drilled two, matching my two shocks I carry all the time, 5.25"x30 (pin up) and 4"x70 (pin down).

Early impressions are a little earlier than the Venom Shock, and stronger, sharper downlane, seeing about 4 with feet and 2 at arrows to same breakpoint on house patterns more from the Primal.

I'll be practicing and plan on taking some video tomorrow to show comparisons. This release is quite interesting to me as the Venom Shock is probably my favorite ball, and I had very fond memories of the Primal Rage, so mixing them together gets me excited and it'll be fun to put it though the paces to see if it lives up to the sum of the components.

Saw Kennon McFall's video on YouTube already. Looks very good in the few shots he threw.

First impressions here on the Primal Shock.
In comparison to the Venom Shock, the Primal for me is around 4 with feet, and 2 at the arrows stronger. The Primal isn’t much earlier than the Shock, but it is stronger off the spot down lane and feels quite a bit faster. What this means when bowling for me is the Primal created a little more angle, and allows me to move inside deeper before the pattern develops as much, relative to the Venom Shock.

For my two Primal Shocks specifically compared to each other, I have a pin up one, 5.25”x30 and a pin down one, 4”x70. The pin down one having a stronger pin placement flares substantially more, and the motion is a lot more rolly at the breakpoint, the ball hooks for longer. I can bounce it off house pattern friction without as much over under shape with the pin down one. The Pin Up one is sharper off the alt and easier for me to move in and let it rip downlane, but it definitely is more susceptible to the wet dry line.

I haven’t had much time to film, but did get some footage the other night and put together a quick look at the Primal Shock here, filmed after league, I’ll have more content coming, included a narrated review when I can catch a fresh pair, and also a group video coming with a few of the other staffers in my state.

If you made it this far, thanks for reading, and let me know if you have any questions.

Seen a decent amount of videos on YouTube. Looks like a good piece so far. Several pre-orders already made at the shop for this one.
