Jackal too strong for THS?
« on: May 21, 2015, 11:27:37 AM »
Looking for something more then my IQ Tour. The Jackal looks like a great ball but I only bowl a few tournaments a year and don't want it just sitting in my bag. Once the fresh breaks down a bit the IQ Tour is fine. Tried the Dream On but it just wasn't consistant enough for me. Thinking about the Tour Nano , Crux or the Jackal. Through the ball fairly straight. The Jackal is a pearl but is supposed to be fantastic on oil. Just looking for some opinions on the 3 balls. Would like to go Jackal/Tour Nano/Crux, Respect, IQ Tour and Respect Pearl next year. Worried a little about Jackal being asymetric. Had trouble with that with the Dream On. Seem to throw symetric better. I did shoot some big scores with the Nano Pearl which was asymetric. Opinions welcome.  Thanks.

It depends on the bowler. If you can usually use more aggressive balls on your THS, the Jackal will probably be fine for you as well.

Look into something like a MeltDown.  It is for heavier oil but the intermediate diff is so low is basically a symmetrical ball and the core is stronger than the IQs.

You'll like the NANO. Its a great ball for oil and straighter angles. It impressed me so much im drilling a 2nd one and maybe a 3rd. It also gives you a little better reaction playing tighter to the head pin which gives you a couple of extra strikes while you move inward until you move in to the point where balls back off the pocket and an Asym or pearl cover is required.

The Jackal can and does work on THS.  However, I would probably recommend the Covert Revolt for most cases instead.  It's still a strong symmetrical ball, simillar to what you find with the Marvel-S or the Tour Nano.  It's going to be smoother throughout all phases on the lane and has a cover that accepts changes very well.  Having one of these, I find that it will handle the fresh well and is about the strongest you'd need.  If you were to go with the Jackal, you'll probably have to put polish on it or change the surface/use a milder layout.

Now if you have a THS with a very high volume of oil or if you have a tournament pattern that is longer length/higher volume, then I'd lean towards the Jackal.  It's about the same strength as what you find with the Brunswick Mastermind or Original RG Defiant.

I agree with vk and tommy - Jackal is very strong and would only be good on THS if you are speed dominant (more speed, less revs).  I am slightly speed dominant to matched speed/revs and the Jackal is too much on most THS for me.

I am also looking at the Covert Revolt or something else to fit between the Jackal and the Sigma Sting.  I think I will wait to see where the summer releases fit before deciding.

I used the Jackal for the first time last night. THS, used it all 3 games 678. Just kept moving in when needed and the ball responded.
