What's the secret?
« on: October 21, 2017, 07:27:48 PM »
What is the secret to throwing Motiv and being somewhat successful?  Any tips?

I have a Jackal LE, Ghost, two Primal Fears, SS, and a Rush. I never feel comfortable with the reactions I see, transition is mystery I struggle for reaction when moving in when I play out everything wants to cut up in the guts I am honestly ready to throw these balls in the trash.

I love the Ghost, WHEN I can actually use it. It needs a lot of oil. I have a Jackal LE, but it's not drilled. The Primal Fear is a very condition specific ball for me and useless otherwise. I'm not a fan of the SS personally and I don't own a Rush.

If you really want to try Motiv, you have to start with the Venom Shock. If you want to add a complimentary ball with it, get the Venom Cobra as well.

I have to agree.  I have several Motiv balls and really like them, but started trying some EBI stuff and finding they too have some very good pieces.  But the Venom Shock is a special ball.  I have used that on dry and slightly heavy oil and it just works!!  I threw the legendary Hyroad for a while, but I have had so much more success with the Shock.  So excellent advice....to start with that.  I would like to add the Cobra, but have too many balls, so have to wait on that for now.  I would like to grab another Shock before they go away...along with the Cobra.  I almost think I could have a Shock and Cobra and that would be about all I would need on most league shots!  Just not as fun having only those 2 balls!  HAHA

Well not sure if talked original poster into it but finally talked me in to a Shock as my first Motiv ball.  With it possibly going away and being so cheap had to pull the trigger.  Probably won't replace my Hy-Road as my ball down from my More Cash but I am a sucker for a ball people are still raving about three years after release.  Wish I would have gotten it before instead of my IQ Tour but perhaps I will find a use for both eventually (Tour seems to handle more oil so some separation at least).  Now have to figure out which ball to bench to the garage.

Why keep buying them? What about the balls interested you in the first place for you to buy so many? What do you like about them and where does it start to go wrong?

Is it likely that your game just doesn’t match up to Motiv’s smoother overall ball motion?  Speed/rev rate, rpm’s etc.

Yeah to hell with the brand.  My general rule for reactives is don't buy any ball that hasn't been out close to at least three years and preferably with people on here raving about.  The one exception is perhaps for a ball on the high end where the latest tech is often the way to go (love my More Cash for example but going to be quite a long time until I replace it).

(edit:  wisdom of crowds can be an oxymoron but some seriously experienced talented and knowledgeable bowlers on here and when multiple of them rave about a ball worth listening especially once a ball has been out for awhile)

I stopped buying them...and I am in the process of getting rid of them
