Looking at possibly switching my entire arsenal.
« on: November 06, 2017, 06:41:41 PM »
Good Evening Motiv Keglerz,

You may have seen my similar post in the Radical section. Im considering Motiv, Radical, and Hammmer. I’m been giving some deep thought (yes my ears are smoking) into possibly switching from Storm/Rotogrip.

What would you recommend for an arsenal of no more than 9 balls, not including the spare ball?
Obviously I’m looking for the Motiv only option here, but am open if there’s a viable reason to use another manufactures ball such as “Radical not having a great THS ball or something”.

Stats:

Ball Speed: 16-17mph
Rev: 300
Axis Rotation: 75 Degrees
Axis Tilt: 17 Degrees

My benchmark punchups are as follows (modified based on motion I’m looking for)

Sym - 50x3.5x40 with balance hole ar 2” below midline on the VAL
Asym - 40x4.25x45

I’m right handed and bowl both THS and Sport on a weekly basis.

Your thoughts and suggestions are highly appreciated!!!!!!

Here's my suggestions
Heavy oil Jackal Ghost (smooth and continuous)
Medium Heavy oil United revolt/ primal fear (depends on what your looking for. Fear being more skid flip and angular. While the united revolt being more rolly and smoother.)
Medium Venom shock( For a motiv arsenal you need this ball)
Medium light venom cobra/ octane carbon ( depends on what your looking for. Octane being more angular)
Light tag cannon/ tank rampage( depends on if you like urethane)

This literally is what I think of when I think of a 5 ball Motiv arsenal. Ghost, United, Shock Carbon Tank

Cobra if you were going to expand it beyond 5 balls?  Oops didn't read post above.  That Cobra does look pretty cool but alas Hy-Road pearl already fills that spot for me.

If I were you and I had the chance to build my entire arsenal with 5 Motiv pieces, this is what I would do:

HEAVY OIL: Motiv Jackal Ghost. Strong read in the mids, early, smooth and continuous downlane.
MEDIUM/HEAVY OIL: Trident Quest. Clean, angular ball that will help me create shape down the lane.
MEDIUM OIL: Forza SS. Benchmark ball, smooth, predictable and  a versatile ball to use on a wide variety of conditions.
MEDIUM/LIGHT OIL: Venom Shock. Great step down from the SS, and great all around ball.
MEDIUM/LIGHT OIL: Octane Carbon. Great step down from the Trident Quest, similar shape, weaker overall.

I would go Ghost, United, Shock x2, and Cannon. The Carbon could fill the second shock spot but I have yet to like my Carbon hence the hesitation to include it.

If I went to a full Motiv lineup this is how I would stack it:

Jackal Ghost
United Revolt
Lethal Paranoia
Venom Shock
Octane Carbon
Hyper Sniper

Usually I would have something like the Trident Quest in there, specifically in place of the United Revolt, but I'm iffy on the early reports for that one. The Lethal Paranoia isn't out yet but if it actually does end up being something between the Paranoia and Chronic Paranoia then it will be epic. Definitely worth the gamble of keeping a spot open.

Bit of a jump from the United Revolt and Lethal Paranoia to the Venom Shock, but not a huge one. Don't see the need for a Forza SS and Venom Shock so I went with the slightly weaker, but more downline option. Octane Carbon is that clean and powerful motion when it gets dry.

I throw almost exclusivly Motiv and I also bowl THS and PBA.

You only need 4.

Jackal Ghost
United Revolt
Venom Shock
Venom Cobra

If you can't cover what you see with these balls, you need to work on your game, not buy more equipment.

United to Shock? That's quite a jump.

You must be going by the Motiv Ball chart. The Shock is a stronger ball than where Motiv has it listed.

I feel like they have a lot of good pieces to where you could put a few different lineups together and cover about anything.

But if I went full Motiv, I would start with these...

Trident
Forza SS
Lethal Paranoia
Venom Shock
Tag Cannon
Current Rotation:
PhysiX
Code X
Code Black
Axiom Pearl
Phaze III
Trend
IQ Tour

The thing with the Shock is the range it can cover between drillings and cover changes.  I could see a 4 inch pin below fingers (for my PAP) and at 1000 be very strong.  Then a 5.5 inch pin above the fingers and 4000+ be a significant step below.

For an arsenal, the Shock is better suited I think as a weaker benchmark on sport.  The Chronic is probably better suited as a benchmark on THS with the stronger core.  The Chronic will allow a bowler to play more left-to-right.

Yes, the Shock is surprisingly strong.  I can't keep it on the lane on medium-light.

I'm going by numbers. 2.48 .034 vs 2.47 .056.

Ehh, what do I know. I only throw the balls three or four times a week.  ;D

2 dull, 2 shiny, 1 bench, 1 spare

Ghost strong dull asym
SS strong dull sym
Quest strong pearl asym
Cobra weaker hybrid sym
Shock medium dull sym
Sniper/Tank

Lethal could replace the Quest. Have to see how strong it truly is before actually posting that ball in the lineup
