Motiv (Where to Start)
« on: September 18, 2013, 12:29:52 PM »
I'm debating on switching over to Motiv.  I've ordered the following:

Primal Rage
Venom Toxin
Thrash Frenzy

I will be also looking at the Tribal come the first. Just looking for thoughts on the product line and the balls listed above.

Thanks in advance

I my first Motiv ball was Raptor P7, and now about 80% of my arsenal is Motiv, including the three balls you referenced. What impressed me about their line-up is that they pay as much attention to the low end as their premium stuff. I have multiple sanctioned 300's with the solid Assent. How many lower end $100 balls can you throw with real confidence??

My Primal Rage and Venom Toxin are drill pin above ring, and the Frenzy is pin below ring. They all provide a different look, so I don't feel I have any useless overlap. The Rage is a backend monster, the Toxin more of a tamed down version of the Rage, and the Frenzy provides a nice controlled midlane reaction. As much as I like the Venom Toxin, if I was you I might have gone with the Venom Strike instead to get a feel for Motiv solid reactive covers, but you still have a good starting three.

Hopefully you'll find your own success with their line-up.

I use a lot of Motiv products.  I really like the Venom Toxin.  I just received the Primal Rage so I do not have an opinion on it yet.  I also have the Primal Scream and have great success with it.

I too switched over to Motiv. I currently have the Primal Rage drilled pin above ring and slightly to the right and I have a Venom Strike as well drilled the same way. The Rage is a backend monster for me and my Venom Strike is smooth but with a strong arc. I really love their equipment and plan on getting the Venom Toxin and probably a 2 Cruel. But I think you have a real good lineup with the balls that you will be getting.

After throwing mostly DV8 for the past year, and mostly Hammer for 3-4 years before that, I picked up a Venom Toxin a few weeks back. All I can say is it is the best ball I've thrown since the Hammer Black Widow - and ultimately may be even better. I have mine drilled pin in the ring finger and cg in the palm. The ball gets decent length and is strong but not flippy. On broken down lanes, I can miss right and left and still strike. I'm switching back to throwing one handed after throwing two handed for the last two years and this ball is making it an easy transition. The only negative is it does not handle the heavier oil as well for me.

After throwing the Toxin, it didn't take long to decide I wanted a Primal Rage. Just waiting to receive it. It should help me when I encounter more oil. I'm also considering the Tribal when it comes out. If the Rage is as good as the Toxin, it will be Motiv for me from here on out. DV8 has some good pieces as well, but nothing that rolls like the Toxin does off my hand.

If you like the roll of the Toxin, but need it to handle more oil, then you should try the Venom Strike. It's a great ball for the price and with a little surface, it can handle oil.

One of the best moves I made is using mainly Motiv.

My line up goes like this.

2Cruel 4000ab assym pin up above and right of ring where I need larger total hook with length Whiplash hybrid cover

Primal Scream 4000ab sym pin up above and right of ring fits just under the 2Cruel Whiplash solid

Thrash Frenzy 2000ab w/ polish pin up above ring middle of the road arc type reaction with nice backend because of stronger Whiplash pearl cover....normally I'd put a Sigma Tour here and can be picked up reasonably now for around $90 on closeout.  ST probably the ball best suited for middle of the road Atomix solid cover benchmark.

Venom Strike OOB cover Atomix solid was way too strong early low Rg plus layout on ball for what I see for  ball in this position so I took it to 4 sides 500ab, 2 sides 1000ab, 15 secs 2 sides Storm Step 2 and 2 sides 10 secs Reactashine.  With this cover change it's much like a Toxin I would believe and has a pin down under bridge layout smooth and rolls great on fresh most wet/dry house shots.

Ascent Pearl 2000ab w/ polish 2" pin over from ring good drier lane ball for more in the track area usage.

Drilling a Tribal this next week.  Didn't drill a Primal Rage probably would be a good ball for me moving deep for better carry.

QZ2 Pearl retired.

I'll keep that in mind. I'll wait to see how the Rage is first though.

BTW....after reading this thread again.  It's good to see non-staffers reply in a thread and those that actually paid for their equipment and have solid opinions about a ball line-up.  I'd rate these opinions as having nothing to grind.   :)

Here is a list of my equipment. I JUST bought the Primal Rage and have only thrown it for three games. I've never seen anything snap hook like this ball. I'm a big fan of this comapny. Used the Raptor Attach to throw a 300 in a state tournament 2 years ago.

VENOM STRIKE   50   5   40      4000 / P
PRIMAL RAGE   62   5   35      1500 / P
RAPTOR ATTACH   45   5 5/8   40      2000 /  P
WHITE DOT   Label                            4000 / P
THRASH   60   4 1/2   30                      1000 / P
RECON RX1   55   5 1/4   40                      4000 / P
RAPTOR P7   20   4   25                      4000

Just got a tribal in the mail today, very nice looking ball, excited to get holes in it and toss it down the lane.

I have to give another vote to Motiv.  They have a unique reaction.  The covers are very strong, and while they rev and roll in the right places, they don't look like a lot of balls out right now that roll at your toes and don't have much left for the backend.  Motiv stuff is very continuous, and because they don't rev at the foul line, there's plenty left on the backend for hit.  I'm a fan.
What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?
