Ball down from forza redline
« on: October 16, 2015, 10:38:31 PM »
I just got my redline in. Haven't had it drilled yet, that comes tomorrow. But I'm wondering what's a good ball down from the redline? I was thinking the tag? But maybe there's something better, let me know. Thanks!

Guy that works for me throws strictly Motiv products. In talking with him and watching him, I would recommend the Tag or the Apex. I have not had any issues with all of the Tags I have sold, but talking to one of my distributors, I guess they have had some cracking issues with the Tag. Hopefully it has been addressed or was just a batch that was having issues.

Depends on what ball motion you want.  Personally I go Graffiti Tag (pin over) then Venom Shock (pin in ring).  Shock for me is the perfect useful ball motion....I use that ball as kind of house shot benchmark.  Both are solids.

Not much love for the Panic? I would think that would be the best step down from Redline considering they are both pearls.

I'm just looking for a ball down and lighter oil ball below the redline. I had thought about the panic but wasn't sure

I'd look at the Graffiti Tag or Ascent.  Those balls will handle lighter oil pretty well and give you a different overall shape.  One other option that some people overlook is the Tribal Fire.  That ball is a hybrid but it also fits the bill.  In my case on lighter oil, I like that the Tribal Fire will read the mids a little earlier compared to the Tag/Ascent but still has more than enough punch in back.  Plus, the lightbulb style cores have always worked well with my game and this is no exception.

Just threw my redline... I love that ball. It's my first motiv ball. Took a shot in the dark and just bought it to try it as I've been admiring motiv for some time now. Drilled it 65x5.5x35, and it's sUchiha an amazing roll. Doesn't overreact for me in anyway. I couldn't be happier! Glad I made a good choice

What's everyone's opinion for a ball that's stronger than the redline? I want something a little stronger for the heavier oil. I am higher revs so I wasnt thinking a jackal or even a remix would be anything I need yet. I was thinking either revolt vengeance or havoc but maybe I'm wrong lol. I don't know the motiv line that well as I'm new to it. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

If you want a step up, then the Revolt Vengeance or the original Forza would both fit that slot.

As for a step down, it will depend on how big a jump you are comfortable with.  Jumping to the Tag is a bigger jump than the Panic or the Tribal Fire.  For THS I can see the Tag being a good step down.

However, for conditions where you don't want as big a jump, having either the Panic or Tribal Fire (Panic being a tad smoother) might be better.  Then from there you can go down again to the Tag and/or Ascent Apex.

As for a step up, are you looking for the same shape but stronger, or a ball to start with then transition to the Redline?  Early reports have the Redline being a bit more angular than expected.  So same shape but stronger could be the Remix or, with an adjustment of the cover, the Vengeance.  If you want a ball to start with, either the Covert Revolt/Revolt Havoc (stronger) or the Forza (relatively same strength as Redline) could be used.

A lot of ball selection up/down depends a lot on how you plan to attack the shot in question.  Once you have a plan, selecting a ball should be easier.

Mainly I'm looking for a ball to start with. I love the redline but it does seem to force me further right at the beginning of the night than what I've been use to. So I want something to start with and be able to move a little left with in the beginning and transition to the redline when the other ball seems to be too much. I also want something good for tournament play as I want to start getting into that very soon. I'm trying to get an arsenal good for leagues but also tournaments. My plan is to get 3 balls to start. Then fill gaps from there as I go.

I drilled my redline 65x5.5x35 because after watching numerous videos of justin reviewing many of the balls it also seems that when he has that layout he says it's great for higher Rev players. With my slower ball speed (16) and higher Rev rate I always struggled with things hooking too much too early

I'm probably going to get nailed for this, but Stormroto22 you need to seriously consider getting some professional coaching to help you improve your game.  You have displayed  (at least to me) that you believe you can "ball" your way to being a better bowler.
You have posted on the Brunswick, Motiv, Storm and Roto Grip sections leading everyone to believe that you seriously wanted to switch companies and asked for everyone advise.  While you were doing this, you purchased the Redline, and are now asking for balls before and after the Redline.  Others stated you were "baiting" the posters on this forum.  I not sure you were, but again you cannot ball your way to continuous success on the lanes.  You yourself stated more than once it's you not your equipment, which by the way is good stuff as previously stated by me.
Sorry, but I call it as I see it.
