Motiv Recon RX1 Silver pearl
« on: December 09, 2010, 03:10:50 AM »
Got two in yesterday. (one for me, and one to sell on here)

Drilled one up this morning and got to try it out on a leftover league shot from last night.

(Bowler specs PAP 5.5", speed 16.5, Revs 300)

Ball is laid out 60x5"x40 no x-hole. (pin above the ring finger) This is my second Motiv ball to try. (other GT1)

Wanted ball for my third game in league because of how fast our lanes break down. Wasn't sure on how aggressive to drill it because I have nothing to compare it to with so little use in Motiv equipment. So I drilled it for length in hopes the core cover combo wouldn't be too weak for me.

Trying it out this morning, the ball is much stronger then I was expecting. When compared to my Brunswick Avalanche Pearl(5" pin down) it reads the lane sooner and is stronger on the backends. The Avalanche only has about 5 games on it, and is OOB. I was guessing the Recon to be somewhere in between the Power Groove and the Avalanche series. It is stronger. lol

Ball does have some length, but is very aggressive on the backends. The ball looks great, and has very strong hitting power.  I will post a review next week when I get a chance to try it out in league.

I drilled mine 60x4.75x20 and it's really smooth.it also makes a good spare ball/lite oil ball, made every ten pin first night out with it.

Finally got one of these drilled up. I'm a no thumber. I used one of my favorite drills. No thumb hole. Cg between fingers. Pin in line with fingers. About a 4.5 inch pin to pap. 15/16 of topweight after drilling.
I only have 3 games on it so this is only a first impression. The ball is very clean. No early hook here. When the ball hits the dry, you can see it check up and then it makes a strong move to the pocket. I bought this ball to slot between my Liberator and my Awesome Flip. It fits between them, but it is much closer to the Flip than the Liberator. I expected it to be the other way around.
As a result, I have to play a bit deeper than anticipated.

The strong point of this ball is carry. As it hooks late and strongly, I expected ten pins to be a problem. The only tens I left were on balls pulled into the oil. Those shots will hit the pocket, but the ball needs dry to get into a roll and carry.

Looks like a winner. I'll post a review in a week or two when I have more games on the ball.

Not that it really matters, but the ball is o so pretty.
