The MOTIV Trident flat out hooks! More than any other ball that I have personally thown, in fact. The Trident is perfect at the top of my line-up – a full 4 or 5 boards stronger than my Primal Rage Remix. That being said, it is amazingly controllable as well. It has a new asymmetric core called and a new hybrid reactive cover used for the first time. Many times balls designed for heavy oil will hook too early – but the Trident retains the right amount of energy to give it outstanding continuation.
Here is a video I did where I compare the Trident to all of the current balls in the MOTIV line-up on Kegel’s Bourbon Street Pattern:
To fine tune the break point, don’t be afraid to add a bit of surface, or polish. I’ve tried both, and was quite impressed with the versatility to dial in the shape that I’m looking for. My rev-rate is relatively high (420) compared to my ball speed (17mph at release). For me, this is the perfect heavy oil ball. If you have a lower rev-rate and a higher ball speed than I do, you’ll be able to use this piece on a variety of conditions. But in general, if you’re looking to cover more boards – look no further!
