considering buying a original covert revolt, would you consider this a heavy oil ball, most people tell me it hooks quite a bit, comparing it to new nirvana and the storm lock

I have an Original Revolt and I would not consider it to be a true heavy oil ball. It does hook quite a bit. However, for the really heavy soup, balls like the Nirvana, Lock, Paradox or Jackal are all stronger.
What I would compare the Original Revolt to is the Storm Marvel-S. Both of those balls are very similar in how they handle Medium-Heavy oil. The Revolt is going to be a bit smoother overall than the Marvel-S but is more continuous in the back. It's very good on longer length/sport patterns and takes surface changes well from what I've experienced. The original 3000 grit box finish was ok, 2000 made it even better. Since that time, I've experimented with using a 900 Global E pad on it (1500 grit) and that worked extremely well on some heavier patterns when I needed that type of surface.

The Marvel-S was Storm's symmetric heavy oil ball. It set the standard for about 2 years. The Revolt really doesn't compare to the Marvel-S for heavy oil.
That doesn't diminish how good the original Revolt was. It was one of the better benchmark balls on the market for medium oil.

Covert Revolt I agree would not be a true heavy oil ball but for many they never see enough true heavy oil to consider the need for more total hook than that. I have the new Revolt Havoc (replacement for the Cover Revolt) and I consider this ball with the Helix HFS Reactive a stronger cover than the CV's Turmoil HFS cover at the same ball surface.
For me this is my strongest ball I use. Stats. are in profile. The HV replaced an older original pin down Cell. I keep it @500/4000 with the ability to go lower with use of pad by hand if needed at tourney's.

I would not consider the Covert Revolt a heavy oil ball. The new Havoc Revolt or Jackal would be better for heavy oil.
