Much demand for the Motiv "classics"?
« on: June 02, 2013, 11:01:35 PM »
I know this company hasn't been around that long but has a very loyal following, and although I've yet to try Motiv reportedly it is top notch. I'm wondering if the older NIB stuff fetches such a premium price as say 90s Brunswick equipment, older Lane #1 balls, etc. Not looking for a comparison to other companies, simply curious if the Motiv Nation also pays top dollar for the early stuff.

Not really. If you have one of the first couple of balls(TX1, SX1) those will bring about the price as when they were new. The GT1 usually goes for a premium as it is somewhat rare. If you happen to have one of the limited production balls like a GX1 or TZ3, they bring a decent premium. But as far as having a true classic ball that makes people really willing to open their wallets, not so much.

Outside of the SR2 that people will almost pay a premium for I haven't noticed any clamoring for older Motiv balls that has lead to ridiculous prices on them.

Funny how some brands inspire this sort of reaction and others don't. Even Seismic, a newer brand, has bowlers hunting down their original releases.

For my part I'd be interested in the TX1 and TR2. But I guess I'd pay top dollar if I found one.

Doug, if you are looking for a ball with the Thrust core, you can still get the Primal TV4 for a very inexpensive price. It's not as strong as the TR2 and is stronger than the TX1. Pearl coverstock instead of the solid on those two balls. I suspect if you put the 800 grit finish the TR2 had, it would be just as strong.

Thanks Milo. My buddy had a Primal and it indeed was strong. I'm not really looking to get into Motiv or any new balls right now. This was more a question about brand loyalty and the sometimes ridiculously high prices older equipment fetch.
