Motiv Gel Cleaner
« on: December 27, 2011, 12:25:59 PM »
I was wondering if the Motiv Gel Cleaner was similar to the old Clean N Dull?  It required you to use a wet wash cloth to clean the gel off.

Just curious if this cleaner was something more suited for home/pro shop or can it be used w/ ease immediately after a bowling session like more of the spray cleaners????

Thanks

Why try something different, when you can still get Ebonite "clean and dull"??? Its the exact cleaner as to when it was with track, etc. It sounds like you already know how great it is, as do i. Im not knocking Motiv cleaner by no means, but I will say the clean and dull is hard to beat! john

I do still use the Clean N Dull about every other week.  Just was wondering if this was something that I could use more on the fly.

It's priced pretty well for the amount in each bottle.  I was thinking of giving it a try to replace maybe the Energizer or Storm's Reacta Clean that I often times use

I'm 3/4 way of a bottle of Motiv Clean Gel.  It's good, not exceptional and it's not bad by any means either.  I would prefer clean and dull (though it doesn't dull) personally but that is only my preference.

My list of Cleaners would be something like:

1)  Valentino Remedy

2)  Clean and Dull

3)  Neo Tac Hook It

4)  Motiv Clean Gel

5)  Ebo Powerwash

Again, preference.

To me Power Gel Clean (approved for use during bowling) is not a deep cleaner like Clean N Dull (only approved before or after).  I consider Power Gel Clean to be a everyday cleaner and keep it in my bag for use after bowling or if I need it during, when I can find it locally.  I like it better than other "ok for use during" cleaners but still use Clean N Dull every 9 to 12 games in addition.

Motiv Gel cleaner is in a class with Remedy in that it's approved for use DURING bowling. I also like Remedy better for that purpose.

Clean and Dull and Hook-It are super cleaners approved for use only outside of bowling. So they are perfect for use after bowling to get rid of those embedded oil lines, ground into the cover. Only these stronger cleaners will remove them.

Since Clean and Dull requires water as part of the process, Hook-It is better to use, since it just sprays on, like Remedy, and and is easily wiped off afterwards. I tend to use Clean and Dull at home on balls that show more oil use or have 2 - 3 months wear/use without having been treated.

Thanks for the comments, but does the stuff come off easy w/ just a micro fibre cloth and does the gel leave a residue on the ball???

It comes off fairly easy. To get the most dirt and oil off, you should let it sit on the ball for as long as you can (before you lose patience). I'd say at least 20 - 30 seconds. (If you're just sitting in a chair after bowling, that is a long time, but try to let it sit on the ball.) Since it's a gel, it won't roll or drip very far. Just spread over a small area, doesn't have to be thick. Then wipe it off with a CLEAN towel/cloth. Terry cloth or micro fiber has the most abrasion without scuffing the ball. So either one and the gel can do a decent job.
