Hello guys, this time I had the chance to try the new Motiv Thrill. Here is my written review:
I had the chance to try this ball on our house shot pattern, where there is a lot of friction even on fresh and there is also a lot of over/under and this ball worked amazing.
I was able to play straighter and play up the boards and the ball gave me a great look during the review.
This ball is definitely cleaner through the fronts and it has a smooth and continuous motion down the lane, nothing angular like the Hydra or even the Freestyle Rush. The only ball in the current lineup with a smoothest backend reaction is the Tank Rampage.
For the review, I used the ball with the OOB surface (5500 LSP) and I found myself really comfortable throwing the Thrill. The ball never wanted to hook too early and it has a medium to slow response to friction, which helps me to keep the pocket in front of me and play tighter angles.
The Thrill is very forgiving for a low entry level bowling ball. Misses outside 5 or 6 and the ball had plenty of recovery without being too much. Misses inside my mark and the Thrill clean coverstock helped to push further down the lane, creating a bigger margin of error compared to stronger balls in the lineup.
The Thrill needs friction to work at its best. When I tried to open up the lane and play inside second or third arrow, the Thrill wasn't enough ball to play steeper angles. Balls like the Hydra, Rouge Blade, Villain Scorn or Golden Jackal would be a better fit to play the inside part of the lane.
This ball allows me to play my favorite part of the lane. I feel that the Thrill gives me enough margin of error to be used on fresh if there is enough friction. I also see this ball as a great step down from balls like the Forge, Venom Shock or Venom Recoil. The Thrill will provide easy length and a smooth motion that will help to control once the ball exits the pattern.
Overall, I am impressed with the Thrill. It is more versatile than I thought. It can be used after stronger balls start producing too much friction, but it can also be used on fresh playing straighter angles and when there is enough friction.
For its price point, the Thrill will be a great piece to have. It offers length, control and enough versatility to be used on fresh oil while playing straighter and on broken down patterns.
Rev dominant bowlers will love the control the Thrill has to offer. Speed dominant bowlers like me will have in the Thrill a useful piece to play in the friction without worrying about the ball hooking too early or too much.
This new addition to the Motiv lineup is a pleasant surprise. If you are looking for a ball to use on light oil conditions, this ball will be a great addition to your arsenal.
