Motiv Trident Abyss
« on: September 25, 2018, 04:57:22 PM »
Motiv’s new Trident Abyss comes with the new Coercion HV3 Reactive coverstock and is the strongest ball they have made to date. It uses the same Turbulent core as the previous Tridents. I have mine drilled 70 x 4.5 x 40 which puts the pin above my fingers.

Review:

You’ve all heard this ball hooks a ton. I am normally a down and in guy who likes to play around the track. My practice session was on a house shot that had about 5 games on it. Off my Rogue Blade (pin down at 2000 grit) line, I had to take a good 8-10 board move left in order to hit the pocket with the Abyss. This ball definitely reads the lanes sooner than anything in my bag and allows me to get inside out of my comfort zone. Before the Abyss, I used a Rogue Blade or Villain for heavier patterns, both at 1000 grit. The Abyss reads much sooner than both of these and I feel has more drive going through the pins when you hit those floods.

Summary:

This is a ball I’d keep in my bag for the earlier blocks and to help me move inside when I need to play those deeper angles. I don’t see me being able to use this all 3 games of league, but could definitely get some use game 1 and 2. It's a perfect ball up from the Rogue Blade. I have not thrown any of the other balls in the Trident line to compare, but for comparison to the Rogue Blade and Villain, I am a good 8-10 boards left. When you need a ball to play the flood and read early, the Abyss is the one for you.

Meh! Scrolled down to posters signature line and see that he's a Motive staffer. Decided against reading ANOTHER, RAH RAH SIS BOOM BAH pep talk though, sigh!  ::) Other newbies might enjoy it though.

it was actually a clean, unbiased review. He never said how great it was or how anyone should have one. Just how he uses it and how it compares to other balls.

If this ball actually hooks 8 to 10 boards more than a Villian with a 1000 grit surface, I'm not going to need it. The lanes where I bowl have  neither that kind of volume nor the width this ball will require. IF of course, it's an accurate review...

Oh hell, who am I kidding, I'll buy it anyway, then tell everyone later I'll probably never be able to use it.

But at least the review wasn't a copy/paste typical staffer hack job.
