Need a different look
« on: May 07, 2014, 09:02:10 AM »
So I REALLY like my Covert Revolt.  Easily the best benchmark ball I've ever thrown.  However, my problem is that it doesn't quite rev enough on the fresh, and I can't create much angle with it.  Once the track burns some, it's over, I've got reaction no one else has, but getting to that point is a little rough.

What I need is about the same amount of hook, maybe a little more, but I need to be able to create a little more angle.  I'm not trying to swing the whole lane, but I guess I need a stronger finish on the back.  I was thinking Primal Rage or Cruel Intent.  I like the look of the Rage better, but I realize it is technically weaker.  However I've seen it thrown a LOT, and I think it may be the perfect compliment ball.  It still hooks enough to dig through some of the soup and create that stronger move on the back without being too sensitive.  I like the Cruel Intent too, but it almost seems like it's going to be too smooth, or closer to the Revolt than I'd like.  I have a Rage that I throw lefthanded, so I do have personal experience with it too.

My Revolt and Tribal are both 70x4.5x35.  I was thinking Rage at 65x4x30.  I like the motion of the Tribal, but it just doesn't hook enough, so I was thinking a more aggressive Tribal would be the look I'm after, which equals the Rage.  Lol yes it sounds like I've already made up my mind, but I'm looking for either a different suggestion or support for what I've already thought through.  Thanks!
What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?

The Rage could be a good option, but you will need to scuff it up some.  I personally think the Cruel Intent is the ball you want.  The Sinister core has given me good backend reaction (2 Cruel) and combine that with the Fusion Pearl cover, I assume it is the ideal combination you are looking for.

However, I am not sure how well you match up with asymmetric cores.  I usually do well with symmetric stuff, maybe because I just haven't had a great drill on an asymmetric.

I'm thinking along the same lines, that's why the decision is tough . .  It's primarily for a sport league during the summer, but we have first generation Anvilane and I don't know what type of oil they use (Infinity maybe?), but it's definitely not Ice, so everything plays drier than it really is.  We bowled on Autobahn last night, and even though it's a pretty easy pattern, I just didn't quite have an early enough read.

I like the Fusion coverstock, so I don't think I'll be disappointed with either ball.  I don't use asymmetrics much, no real need on a house shot, but the option might be nice because everything else I have is symmetric.  I'm doing a lot of work on my game, and I think I will end up with a bit more speed and less hook overall, so the asymmetric would probably be the way to go.  I'm at about 425ish and 16.5 or 17 right now, will most likely end up between 375-400 and about 17.5 on my speed.

I match up fine with asymmetrics, loved the newer Zone line from Brunswick (Red Zone, Blast, Ultra, Classic, etc), Brutal Nightmare, Taboo, etc.  Lol problem is I want the Rage, but I had the same thought, not going to quite be enough.  Probably go with the Intent then, thanks!

I have a sigma sting with the shine knocked off and a rollier layout, and it is a great ball for me to use ahead of my Revolt.

But like you, when the condition shapes a little bit the Revolt is incredible.

I thought about that, but I really need a different shape.

Drill another one with a low pin/low hole and surface?

I really don't think you could go wrong either way. Personally, I would go with the rage, but I'm a bigger fab of symmetrical stuff. The intent is a great ball, but it is a lot smoother on the back than the rage.

Either ball fits the bill here though, if you want something as strong or stronger, and more angular.

I think the layout you in mind on a rage of 65 x 4 x 30 would be exactly what you're after. Let us know what you decide to do and how it works out for you!

After watching a lot of video, it looks like the ball I'm after right now is the Rage.  I will however need a stronger ball eventually.  I would guess that a bigger hooking ball would be on Motiv's calendar soon with the recent releases being on the lower end.
