Title: New to Motiv - what to get?!?!
Post by: MTbowler on December 16, 2015, 04:05:39 PM
Hi all,

Want to give Motiv a shot as they have been making big waves on the tour. Heard a lot of good about their products.

I am looking for a ball to use in league. I currently throw a Hyroad around 2nd arrow out to about 6-7 or the Storm Spit Fire a little deeper around 3rd arrow out to about 5-6. I want something in that area that won't jump too hard on the backend. The Hyroad can leave a lot of flat 10's and the Spit Fire can be too strong off the pattern.

What is everyone's recommendations for a Motiv ball that will fit the bill? I was looking at the Forza Redline.

Let me know if you need any other information.

Thank you!!

If you want something that won't jump much, I'd look at the Venom Shock or Panic

The shock is probably the best choice.  The Tag is a good ball but it seems a little spotty for me. The Tag would be more like your spit fire but maybe a bit less jumpy. The Shock is super versatile and seems to work on many conditions, sport included.  More like the Hyroad motion but a little earlier and stronger in my opinion

Shock.  You won't be disappointed.

The only reason I wouldn't recommend the redline or the tag here is because you said you don't want something thar jumps too hard on the backend. Both of those balls are quite angular.

The shock is the clear choice here. One of the best theyvm've made. You won't be disappointed.

if you have some oil, the Primal Rage Remix, the green ball!! Great piece! Shock is really nice also!

I will agree the Shock is a great "gateway" ball.
sort of like a drug, it will get you hooked.

Good strength, not jumpy and very predictable but still has good motion.

I agree with the Shock and the Panic.

Wow, thank you all for your responses! It appears the Shock is an absolute. That will be the one I get!

What would your recommendation be for a layout? Dual angle preferably. My PAP is 4 7/8 x 3/4 up. Revs around 370, speed around 15.

Thank you again!!

I would go 4" pin to PAP. Pin next to or just above the ring finger.  Set it up to do a possible MOtion hole with it, incase you want to change the reaction and need more backend and continuation.

That is how I set mine up but didn't need the motion hole as I liked the smooth backend movement and didn't need more.

I agree, I'd probably stick around 4-4.25 for the Pin-PAP

Keep it simple with the angles, like 50/60 x 40/30 that way if necessary you could have multiple options for weight hole placements to fine tune the reaction

rico it!  My tag with a 5 1/2" from pap is not jumpy for me. I tried my buddies rico'd shock and was very impressed.

I would let your pro shop determine the proper drilling.  I realize you gave where you like to play and I am sure what has been suggested would be okay (after all, it is THS).  But your equipment is getting long in the tooth and it is impossible to know where you would have to play with new equipment.
