Surface on a primal rage
« on: October 09, 2014, 03:01:59 PM »
Has anyone tried putting a rougher surface on a primal rage? How did it turn out? 2,000 or 4,000 is what I am thinking. Or 500+polish.

I use mine at 3,000 for sport patterns. It has become my goto ball for flat oil.

I typically keep mine at 4000. I haven't been able to throw it with polish on it without leaving a ridiculous amount of 9 pins. At 4000 though, love it.

I tried a rougher surface, but I did not like the reaction.

Well I tried 3000 grit. I have mixed feelings about the surface. I like the reaction I see, but I have never thrown so many 9 counts in my life. I am getting "robbed" on so many shots it is ridicous. I do feel like I can find the pocket easier though, and I have more recovery on misses outside than I previously had. I think this is a ball that works best with polish. I am going to try 500 polished and see how it does on Sunday

Good way to look at it. Each of us have our own unique characteristics, so you will have to adjust to what works best. The cover of the Rage takes changes very well, so don't be afraid to experiment with it.

Good Luck!

I received my Rage from Buddies Pro Shops this evening perfectly drilled exact and not even the thickness of a piece of paper off on the span. I haven't tried it yet but may get a chance tomorrow, so will leave cover as is untill I try it.

I loved my primal rage at first, then I started losing carry with it. I resurfaced it back to factory and loved it again. I started losing carry again, so I thought I would try it with more surface. Carry is worse -_-

Could it just need an oil extraction?
Polished or not, it is a VERY strong coverstock and probably absorbs oil like a sponge.

I honestly don't know if it does or not. I could bring out the bucket and hair dryer and see what comes out. It probably has 100 games on it.

Not sure if you saw it or not in another post, But I did a friend's Marvel Pearl (Kind of an equivalent strong pearl)with a NuBall oven. He said it had 100 games on it also; I know he never cleans it at all. The process took about 1/2 - 3/4 oz of oil out of it. Of course, if you clean yours after each league session, yours might not have absorbed anywhere near as much oil.
