I have an Octane and it is very hit and miss.  I have it drilled with a MOtion hole and to be long and very angular.  On the right condition it is awesome.  What I don't like is how iffy it is on spotty condition or carrydown.  The Octane is the only ball that I can see the difference in the amount of conditioner on the lanes as it goes down the lane.  A little heavier and you can see the ball slide.  Hit a drier spot and you see the ball move left.

Is there a current ball that is similar but a better version of the Octane?  I don't mind super angular.  I would like super angular without some of the negative aspects that the Octane has.  My Octane is better on medium to light conditions.  I thought the Tag would be a replacement but my Tag is just overall pretty weak and not very angular at all.

For me, the Tribal Fire fits that slot. I found the Octane to be to hard to predict, so I sold it(to you in fact ;-) ) The Tribal Fire gets good length with a sharp angular turn off the friction without the super over/under I could never control with the Octane.

I know.. haha. I don't hate the ball and I have always used and love skid flip reactions.. so the ball fits that.  I wasn't really a fan of any of the Tribals for some reason.  Thanks for the info though. You going to Travis?

Yep, will be there this Saturday. I always try to make time for the monthly Travis tournament, because someone has to donate money to the prize fund and brackets.

I've been looking hard at Motiv lately, and the Fire looks much better off the spot than the Octane. Have you tried touching the surface with maybe a 4k pad to get it to read the pattern a bit more?

That is what I was going to try. Right now I have it pretty polished up (maybe too much) because I wanted length out if it.  I use it when my Sting is reading too early or if I need to get inside and get the ball down the lane and need it to recover.

That is what I have read a lot of people are doing to make it more controllable.  I don't really want to lose any of the angularity though.  I'll give it a try and see what the difference is.

Try this. Take a 1000 pad, sand it with the lines parallel to the initial track. Then polish it with your favorite polish.
