Octane Burn or Paranoia?
« on: March 06, 2016, 02:15:25 PM »
Which one is a better replacement for the original Octane?  Looking for  something to be able to get deep with and angular and continuous enough to get back and carry.  I've tried different surfaces with the original Octane and it is still just so over under. Hates oil.. moves on any friction. I saw it move 4 times going down the lane the other day, and that was before the breakpoint.  I have the Tag but that ball is just weaker in general for me.

If you were one of the few who liked the original Octane, then I would think the Paranoia would be the better match.  The Octane Burn is a bit earlier and has a more rounded shape.  The Paranoia has that almost allergic reaction to oil like the Octane did.  Has to have a defined dry spot to react properly.

Of course, you could rough the surface slightly to get it to bite a bit earlier.

Is the paranoia better than the octane?  Does the paranoia make up for what the octane lacks?

Based on what you have said, I would lean to the Octane Burn of the two.  It is a bit weaker than the Paranoia but doesn't have its squirreliness.  If the original Octane was giving you trouble, then the Burn will be a better option.

If you need something stronger, I would wait a bit on the Paranoia till there is more information from non-staffers to see if it is what you want.  But early evidence seems more Octane-like.

I would say the Paranoia is just a stronger Octane. Since you already have the Primal Rage and the Octane, I would go with the Octane Burn. Great ball without all the unpredictability of the Paranoia.

Unless you need a ball to move WAY left and have it still turn the corner hard and kick out the corners, then I don't see much use for the Paranoia.

If you can repeat shots almost exactly, the Paranoia has the biggest back end move I have seen in a Motiv ball. Miss slightly and you will pay a big price. And once there is carry down, it just squirts past the break point. This thing is more unforgiving than the Octane.

The Burn on the other hand, gives a nice arching motion and still moves nicely off the friction at the end of the pattern. It's between the Tags and Revolts both in strength and shot shape.

Thanks for the advice from all.  I do want, "a ball to move WAY left and have it still turn the corner hard and kick out the corners"  but I don't want the squirliness.  I know with a skid flip ball you are going to have some over under and speed control and release is very important, but I would like something a little more forgiving than the original Octane.  I may just wait for more reviews and videos on the Paranoia, but right now it seems like the Octane burn with a pin up more angular layout might be what I want.

How does the Octane Burn compare to the Sigma Sting?  Length and shape? I know you have multiple surface Sigma Stings.  Mine is box surface.

I use the Burn as a step-down and move left ball when my Sigma Sting starts to run out of gas. The Burn gets better length and has better back end movement.
