Ball   Name:   Octane   Carbon
WWRD:   April   10,   2017

• Performance:   Light-Medium   Oil
• Weight   Range:   12#   - 16#
• Inner   Core:   Injectorâ„¢ – NEW!
• Cover   stock:   Agitatorâ„¢   MXR   Pearl
Reactive   â€“ NEW!
• Finish:   5500   Grit   LSP
• 15#   RG:   2.56;   Diff:   .042
• Cover   Color:   Red   Fire   Pearl
• NeoMarkâ„¢:   Black/Orange   Pearl
KEY   SELLING   POINTS
• Featuring   a   totally   new   core   and   cover,
the   Octane   line   has   been   completely
overhauled   to   produce   the   Carbon   edition.      This   impressive   piece   of   high   performance
engineering   is   super   responsive   and   corners   hard!   On   light-medium   oil   conditions,   the   Red   Fire
Pearl   Octane   Carbon   offers   easy   length   and   continuous   backend   motion   that   clears   the   deck
with   explosive   power.
• The   synergies   of   the   brand   new   dual-density   Injector   core   and   Agitator   MXR (MaXimum   energy
Retention)   Pearl   Reactive   cover   stock   are   what   make   the   Octane   Carbon   so   special.      The   core
has   a   higher   RG   to   push   the   ball   transition   further   down   the   lane   and   it   is   complimented   by   the
energy   retention of   the   Agitator   MXR   Reactive   shell,   which   is   tuned   with   a   5500   Grit   LSP   finish.
• The   impressive   power   of   the   Octane   Carbon’s   core/cover   synergy   is   also   clearly   demonstrated   at
the   backend   of   the   lane.      The   Injector   core’s   dual-density   design   and   moderate   differential
produce   a   very   responsive   transition,   which   is   boosted   by   a   release   of   energy   from   the   Agitator
MXR   Reactive   cover   stock.   The   resulting   ball   motion   and   continuation   are   incredibly   powerful.

I really think the Octane Burn will be going away.  The performance range of the Octane Carbon is Light-Medium and that is the Venoms and the Burn.

On a side note, I noticed Tackett throwing something green and silver on the CP3 telecast.  The Carbon is red and the United is green and black.  This ball looked more like the Chronic than anything else, just silver instead of purple.

Agreed Burn will be gone.  Tag is a solid and Carbon is pearl.  Lots of pearls in the Motiv line.  I noticed Tackett's carbon was kinda iffy on the TOC almost left a 8-10 that fell out late in one frame.  I am thinking from Jones urethane use made the roll phase kinda sketchy.

Agree, it looks like a Burn replacement.  That's not to say the Tag may not soon go bye-bye too; it's also getting long in the tooth.

It would be interesting to know sales figures of balls.  Pro-shops may know I guess, but for us average schleps, you kind of have to divine it by both anecdotal comments on the popularity of a ball; and also how many used ones show up for sale.

Current bag:

With a new core and cover combo I'm surprised Motiv is sticking with the Octane family name.

Venom Cobra introduced a new core to the Venom line  (Top Gear vs Gear)

Obviously, the new Jackals have a different core than the originals.

Cruel C51's had different  core than the other Cruels

Primal TV4 had different core than other Primals.

I think it's more of a new. improved version of the core dynamics.  Slightly higher RG (+ 0.01) with virtually same differential.

True. I thought about the Venom Cobra as being an example but didn't realize Motiv had a tradition of doing that even more in the past. Doesn't really matter to me so much, names and colors are pretty meaningless. Motiv definitely does things their own way though which is nice. Sets them apart a bit.

Looks ugly.
Most used:
Motiv Venom Shock (14)
DV8 Grudge Hybrid (14)
Hammer Scandal (14)
DV8 Freakshow (14)

Sometimes.
C300 Swerve (14)
Motiv Jackal LE (14)

Retired:
Roto Grip Sinister (13)
Motiv Jackal (14)

Given to a no-thumber in the club:
Brunswick T-zone (13)

Might stick with Motiv from now on.

I bet this is more of an Octane replacement than a Burn replacement. EJ loves the Octane.

Maybe, uh, spiritually (for lack of a better term that comes to mind) but the original Octane has been retired for a while now. Motiv is usually pretty consistent about retiring one ball for every new one they come out with so it will be interesting to see which one is on the chopping block.

Given the new pearl coverstock on it I'm heavily betting on the Octane Burn being gone. Too early for the Venom Cobra and the Venom Shock wouldn't make much sense given the other balls in that category.

I watched again and it was actually the Chronic with odd lighting I think.  Just threw me off since the examples I have seen first hand have been really purple.
