Ok, I ordered a Tribal. I'm also an idiot, so I won't be bowling lefthanded next year. Looking to add a Covert Revolt and a Sting most likely, hopefully there wouldn't be much overlap there?
On edit, I usually don't deviate very far with layouts, I use ball design for the differences. Layouts usually stay between 60-75 initial angle, 4-5 pin, and 35-50 val angle.

Won't be much in the way of overlap there. You'll have a smooth, strong overall ball in the Revolt, a longer/stronger shape just weaker overall in the sting, and a skid/snappy weaker overall ball in the Tribal. Got shapes covered for sure, varying strength. Might not be able to bowl on toast, but my thought is that picking an arsenal like that you don't run into that often?
For the record, you'll love them all. I do. Literally have not drilled any of those three that people didn't love. They're great.

Awesome. I'll still have the Sigma Tour in the middle there too. No, don't run into toast much, and if I do, I can get as deep as I need to.

Perfect. You should be all set. Welcome to your new addiction, btw. Tribal was my first of the new Motivs too. Now I have...12? Lol. I stopped counting really.

Haha yeah . . Don't know why I ever got away from them in the first place. Saw a couple other people throwing a Tour, knew I had to have it. Then I got the Sigma Hybrid, but as soon as the Brutal Nightmare came out I had to drill one of those, then I got into Seismic for a bit. Keep seeing these ridiculously awesome pieces coming out, drilled a Rage lefty, and then one for the wife. I've been in the business for a while and see all kinds of stuff, but Motiv literally has the best stuff out there right now. Just gonna go with it!

If the tribal doesn't hook you, which I'm sure it will, wait til you throw the revolt. Can't say enough good things about that ball.
-
You know in thinking about it, you could take the sting out and replace it with the shock for a little more separation. Then again, with the tour that makes you pretty solid-heavy. Just a thought.
-
Eh, not worried about coverstock types, and I typically do better with solids anyway. I prefer a bit earlier read and a strong arc on the back.

Tribal is my best all around ball by far. It matches so well to my game and the shots I see.
However the Shock has me intrigued. All the vids look great but BJI rated it longer than the Tribal which baffles me??? Turmoil @4000 should be earlier than the Polished Fusion Pearl on the Tribal no?

I've got them both and this time, I'll have to disagree with BJI. They are a lot closer than I anticipated length wise, but the tribal is definitely longer. The shock is a lot more overall strength wise too. Definitely a little earlier, arcier. Way more in # of boards covered overall though.

And btw, I felt the same way about the Tribal as you do...I like the shock a lot better. Enough ball to throw on heavy ish oil, not too much to where you can't throw it through a whole set on ths. Phenomenal ball. Carry is ridiculous, hits like a Motiv. Feels like cheating.
-
as far as the bji ratings go, keep in mind that joe cerear from milwaukee, wi. is not doing the reviews anymore. vernon peterson from kegel is doing them. cerar did the review for the tribal, peterson did the shock review. from what i see so far, the reviews are looking different between the two tester's.

Tribal was 30/4.25/40 pre drill and even with sizeable P3 it wound up 60/4.25/40 post drill when spun on the Determinator.
If I wanted the Shock to read earlier but still have the strong move similar to the Tribal could I put the same layout on it or do you suggest a stronger pin to pap?
-
I don't think a stronger drill would be necessary. Even the same drill will give you exactly what you just described. Mine is actually 60/4 1/4/40, no hole. Has about 7/8 oz positive side weight, so my plan was to put a hole to fine tune...not needed. I wouldn't change a thing about it.

Thanks for the help!
