Because of my high axis rotation, low revs, and left side ice, I have always done better with very low Rg equipment with high differential. For these reasons, I have wanted a P7 Raptor since they were introduced, and want to pull the trigger on getting one while they are still available. After reading another thread I was introduced to the Motiv ball guide, which seems to indicate that the P7 is a delayed hook ball. I find very strange for a low RG high differential ball. The very last thing I need is a delayed hook reaction given the statistics I mentioned earlier. Now I'm afraid to get the P7. There is always the potential of getting a Talon, but I'm not hearing as much good on it as I am about the original Raptor, plus closeout pricing is certainly attractive.
Can anyone explain the delayed hook rating for such a low RG ball, and provide feedback on the suitability of the original Raptor for my style?
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Probably due to the surface prep. The Raptor P7 is at 4000. That tends to give a much later reaction. The Raptor Talon is at 2000 and looks like an earlier-reacting ball. I'm sure a surface change on the P7 would be a great idea, as well, if you want an earlier reaction.

I had 2 of the Raptor P7's. one drilled 45x4x45. And the other drilled 75x5x60
My 45x4x45 was an oil craving beast oob. Even polished it needed oil and lots of it. The other raptor was much more useable ball for me. The point I'm trying to make to the OP. is to get a P7 and drill it strong and it should be more than enough ball

Thanks to all for the feedback. I decided to give Motiv a try. I ordered the ball yesterday and will have it drilled on Friday. This is my first experience with Motiv after a long time waiting, and I am anxious to see what happens I will report back in about 10 days after a Sunday practice session and Tuesday night league.

I drilled my first Motiv ball in November. I am very happy with the outcome. I think you will like them.

I loved the P7 on oil. It is a lefty's dream when you need the ball to start up and roll heavy from up the boards. IMO, OOB, you need head oil or the ball pukes and if you have no dry boards the ball will sail. Adding surface makes the ball come to life. It also doesnt really absorb a lot of oil either so the reaction OOB or surfaced stays pretty consistent. Good Luck with it.

That's exactly the spot I'm trying to fill. Would be interested in your layout specs if you have a chance...
