Softer cover? So you are saying the Primal Rage doesn't conform to the USBC hardness requirements?
Not necessarily. There is still a minimum hardness of 72. I don't think too many manufacturers list ball hardness anymore, but maybe Motiv is on the low end of the scale while others average higher?

Bowling balls get damaged during use, I doubt one brand suffers more than any other. I have a Primal Rage that has seen heavy use for over a year and has one small cut in the cover. I also have three Sigma Stings and a Tribal that has had extensive use for almost as long and they have nothing more than the usual wear and tear we all get on bowling balls.
However, I do have a new Lane #1 Difference that on the fifth time down the lanes, it came back with a nasty gouge about 1 1/2 inches long, 3/4 inch wide and 1/8 inch deep. Being a brand new ball made it hurt that much more.
