Motiv Ripcord video and written review
« on: June 25, 2019, 11:12:50 AM »

Hello guys! Here we are with another review. This time we had the chance to try the new Ripcord from Motiv.

This ball features the Oblivion core used on the Paranoia series and it is wrapped with the new Infusion pearlized coverstock.

The first thing I noticed is how clean and angular this ball is. The Ripcord is definitely the cleanest and most angular ball in the Motiv lineup. Motiv is known for how smooth and controllable their balls are. The Ripcord is controllable for being such an angular ball, but it offers a skid flip motion that it definitely surprised me.

I started laying the ball inside second arrow and having 5 as my breakpoint and I noticed that I needed to get out of my comfort zone and move deeper. I had to move close to the third arrow to find a good line to the pocket. The Ripcord is very clean through the front part of the lane and as soon as it hits the friction it makes a strong move down the lane. Really impressive.

This ball never hooked too early for me. It has great length and it has a FAST response to friction. As soon as it exits the pattern the ball makes a strong move to the pocket. For me being a low rev bowler with medium speed, seeing this kind of shape down the lane is something I don’t see that often. The ball offers a lot of recovery and it comes back from almost anywhere.

With the Ripcord, I found that misses inside are better than misses outside. When I missed inside, the ball provided enough hold its line when it hits the friction, while misses outside or when I hit the friction too soon, resulted in the ball going high.

As I kept using the ball during this review, the reaction only got better. The Ripcord really shines when the lanes start to break down. I was able to swing the ball more to the left and see a lot of recovery. Even on a broken down pattern, this ball never wanted to read the lane early and saves most of its energy for the last part of the lane.

This ball complements other balls in the Motiv lineup like the Villain Scorn. When the Scorn start reading the lane too early or when you need more length and more shape down the lane, the Ripcord will be a great option to use.

I feel like this ball will be a great option to bowl on fresh for the high rev, power players, providing them easy length and a strong, angular backend motion. While for speed dominant or low rev bowlers, this ball definitely will come into play when you need to open up the lane or when you face broken down patterns. That is where the Ripcord really shines.

For the tournament bowlers, this ball might be a little unpredictable or over/under if you bowl on fresh, flat patterns. To get a better reaction you can always adjust the surface of the ball to match up with the pattern. But once the pattern starts breaking down and you created a hook spot, this ball will be a great option to move in and create more angle.

Overall, the Ripcord is a great addition to the Motiv lineup. The Ripcord will provide easy length and strong angular motion at the breakpoint. Bowlers who love to swing the ball and watch it come back screaming from almost everywhere will love this ball.

Thank you for watching!

This ball flips. It is the original Paranoia but juiced. Motiv may be on to something with the Covert Tank and now Ripcord. And let us not forget the next one... sigma core with a strong cover? Its looking like 2013 all over again for Motiv.

For me the Lethal was even more angular than the original Paranoia, but this ball is really strong downlane! Might be the first true skid flip ball from Motiv!

The Lethal was more angular as well, but I was never able to get mine to actually shape. It was ski- flip or skid, miss the break point. For me, this shapes much more similar to the original Paranoia with a more defined back end. Last night I carried this and the Covert Tank with me and that's all I need on house right now.

I agree! I am using the Covert, the Ripcord and the trustworthy Venom Shock. I really don’t need anything else! That’s what I’m actually taking to Nationals but the Ripcord, I’m taking the Forge instead.  ;D
