Smoothest Motiv Ball
« on: August 14, 2017, 07:22:03 PM »
For you guys that have thrown Motiv. What ball is the smoothest.I am Low tilt, low axis tilt, rev dominant 15/16 mph.I struggle on our screaming backends.
Seems Motiv has alot of gaps filled.I have tried a couple of Motiv balls in the past just didn,t match up very good.Tag was to flippy.I recently found a pink acsent on the cheap.Figured being in the light to dry category it might be ok.This ball hooks as much as anything I have.Even with a P1 hole It is skid/flip for me.
The Forza SS interests me, But Early hook is not my friend either.Forza GT is on clearance.Says its a smoother ball.Just really not sure about balls anymore everything is always stronger than advertised.
So for you guys that have been throwing Motiv.Tell me your opinion of these couple I am thinking about. Forza GT,Cobra,Tag Cannon,Or blue freestlye. Also didn,t say really wanting smooth for THS.Most here scream on the backends.

Original Forza if you can find one or Forza SS. Cobra could be an option. Tag Cannon is quick response to dry but more rounded than the original.

Forza SS should be smoother than the GT.  As SV stated, original Forza would be the smoothest of the Forza line.

Venom Shock can be smooth and may be more than enough ball on most THS, especially considering your experience with the Ascent.

I did try a venom shock.I was thinking with such a low diff it would be ok.Ball was stupid strong for me.Keep in mind house shots here in the south are stupid dry on the backends.Could have been the layout 70 x 4 x 40.It was strong.Didn,t get much use so sold it. Did see Dick Allen win last PBA tourney with the SS.Did look smooth But not sure what they were bowling on.

Smoothest? Probably the Tank Rampage.

If it's really dry trying to find something with a smooth reaction is going to be extremely difficult though, especially as you go up in ball strength. Most resin just screams off the dry these days.

Hello,
I myself am looking at the Forza SS. It is quite smooth, from what I have read and heard, and the reviews I have seen. Surface alteration may be in play here, taking it from 3000 to 4000. Still, from what I have seen, the Venom Shock may be your best overall bet.

And even the Tank Rampage is not really on the smooth end of urethane (still better than resin).  The original Tank if you can find one 2nd hand is a bit smoother (and weaker).

Are you talking about this Tank?  I have one from decades ago and it is what I think of when someone talks about a Tank bowling ball.

While I carry 6 Motivs currently, the original Covert Revolt is by far the smoothest I've ever thrown.

For me the smoothest Motiv piece is the Havoc.  But from the current catalog I would say the Trident for heavy oil and the Shock for medium conditions.

For current balls, I like the Chronic Paranoia for a smooth reaction.  It hooks later than the Venom Shock, but it's not an all-at-once move on the back end. Very predictable.

Thanks for the replies.I have had the Venom Shock like I said way to strong and sideways for our THS.Don't think that the layout made that much difference 70 x 4 x 40 which I know is a strong layout. You guys keep saying its smooth not for this low tilt rev dominant guy.My stuff hits side to side friction and its like you kicked it left.

So I may try the Forza looks smoothest to me by comparison on Justin's Video's.I do have some weaker balls.I just want to give Motiv another chance.I like some of the new releases out.I just want to make sure I get a usable ball on our THS and not another doorstop.

So I will ask again. Those of you that have thrown the Forza GT ,Forza SS ,And Tag Cannon and Blue Freestyle.Which is Smoother on the backends and side to side friction.

Forza SS. When you have flying backends the smoothest ball is going to be the one that uses it's energy earlier. Balls that conserve energy better are going to have a quicker response to the friction.

My example: i bowled 7 games on Viper Sunday, game 4 i had left lane hooking more than the right lane. I threw my Tag Cannon on the right lane that was a little bit tighter and on the left lane i threw my Absolute Nirvana which is my strongest ball because it used more energy and didn't go crazy on the backend.

I do understand what you saying only been in the game 40 years..You must not be low tilt.Earlier reaction is not my friend on these ridiculously dry houseshots..Low tilt gets it rolling alot sooner than you think. So if the Forza is that early of a rolling ball its just going to puke for me.Only flat heavy patterns earlier is fine.I live in friction city.Curious if you have the Forza SVstar?
