Thrill thoughts?
« on: February 09, 2020, 12:55:55 PM »
So I have a lineup pretty squared away, but I was wondering if anyone has drilled one of these and how you like it.  High rg, low diff, weak reactive, and was wondering if this is comparable to an After Dark or even older, a Power Groove. Only Brunswick ball I ever liked was a PG lol.

Super smooth for a low end. It is clean and very long. It's about 3-4 weaker than a Hydra with the same layout for me.

Agree with above, I didn't drill one for myself as it's so rare I wish I had a reactive weaker than my Hydra, and when I do, I use my moonshined Covert Tank, but we've done a few Thrills for guys around here, usually older ones with very low ball speed and they work well. Very mild ball

What would be awesome if someone would do a comparison video of everyone's weakest reactive.  Entry level is a misnomer if bowl in the desert on a desert.  Just scored a Rhino Pro Purple off ebay that is how bad it is.

I'm a little stuck with whether to go with a polished Covert or Thrill for my 5th slot tournament bag.

Now we have talk of the Desert Tank, pearl polymer blend?

I personally use a polished (secret sauce at that) Covert as my bottom of the bag ball. It is more consistent than the Thrill for my game. It is still slightly earlier and not as "squirty" since it still flares a ton. Where the Thrill has a smooth and long cover on it. The high RG and low diff can make it difficult for some due to over/under.

This is without all of the info and testing on the Desert out yet.

I'm not a fan low diffs for this reason, although I'm sure they have their place I just haven't found one that scores well for me.

It would be interesting to know which create more havoc on the pattern... A urethane with modest flare capabilities of a low flare reactive.

Urethane, because it will push oil further down the lane.

Modern higher flaring urethanes come back on the rack with some heavy oil rings. So long as the bowler scrubs the oil off the carry down affects should be minimal, unless the argument is the thin oil film left on the surface not being absorbed. I'm sure there's an affect.

Low flaring traditional urethanes typically have low diffs creating a very tight bow tie urethane or resin this would be the primary source for pushing oil downline.

I only bring up the comparison because a teammate of mine who has struggled with low ball speed, high axis rotation, low tilt, while bring rev dominate decided to drill a polished Rhino and place the pin on his track. The ball literally had no flare slow rolling from 18 to 5. By game 2 our shot was destroyed no ones ball was making the turn and we had no one rolling urethane on the lanes...

In any case my traditional bowlers would argue just make good shots! lol

Wait the shot was destroyed by a Rhino?  There didn't happen to be any other SPEC balls or UFOs, etc were there?  I use a Slingshot with a very low flare drilling on light house partially because it hardly changes my line during the night.  Lot of other weak balls including urethane people use in this league and the only time I have to pay any attention to other people's line is when some fool brings a moar hook ball (ok with it though because generally means taking game 2 and 3 and total).

Agreed. Usually when people use such a ball they're playing the ditch away from traffic.

Yeah can see that on a decent volume house shot as Rhino in the oil is 60' of skid for most.
