The ball looks great and I love that type core, but sadly it only comes in 14-15-16 lb weights and not lighter weights, so people like myself will have to look at something else.
I remember reading somewhere that Motiv uses the same cores for their bowling balls in the weight ranges by changing the densities. If they cannot change the density of the core enough to go in a lighter weight ball (e.g. 12, 13 lbs), then the ball won't be released in that weight. They didn't want to go with generic cores which is similar to what Storm does in their lighter weights on some balls (14-16 lb Optimus uses the Tri-Sphere core, 12-13 lb uses the Modified Centripetal core).
Tommy, you are correct that Motiv reduces the densities in their cores to allow them to put the same size/shape cores in their 12-13 lb. balls. I have been told that Lane 1 does this also.
After I had back surgery Oct of 2013, the Dr told me due to my weak and soft bones, that if I didn't drop to 12#, that I would be back for more surgeries, so I dropped to 12#. I checked out all the major ball compnies to see what cores they were using in the light weight balls and found that Brunswick, Columbia, Storm, and Ebonite, all use the same type Generic light bulb shape core in their lighter weight balls. In checking with Motiv, I found they use the same size/shape but less dense cores in their light weight balls in order to maintain as close s possible the same shape moves that their heavier balls make.
Prior to that I was loving Brunswick, but this core thing forced me to switch to Motiv and I haven't regretted it a single day since. Their balls are really strong in the lighter weights.
