Title: Thinking of trying Motiv
Post by: offthesheet on September 29, 2016, 10:24:12 AM
Hey everyone, i have never tried a Motiv ball and considering trying one. I know there are a few newer releases like the Trident, Forza GT and some oldies like the Venom Shock.  Wanted to see what you might suggest to try.

Thanks,

I avg about 225 and throw mainly track and storm now.  I throw about 18 mph with medium/higher side of medium revs.  Mainly bowl on medium to higher side of medium lanes.

What type of ball have you liked from the other companies?  Do you play straighter arc or like to skid flip?  Up the back or off the side?  See the MOTIV ball guide on their website.  Higher RG to the right (skid flip types), lower RG on the left (smoother arc).  The GT is a great control ball for me right now.

Depends on what you are looking for.  If you want to start over or add to your current arsenal will affect the suggests of those familiar with Motiv's line.

Shock is like a Hyroad, from what I hear. When comparing ball motion characteristics from company to company, people say Motiv is more controllable than Storm, but more back end than other companies.

It is my experience that the Motiv brand balls do not soak up the oil as fast therefore they do not hook as much as most other brands.  They are more "controllable" because they do not flip as hard as other brands.  Smoother reactions are easier to predict and allow for more area.

I use a couple of older Motiv balls: Sigma Sting and Venom Panic. The Sting is more angular than the Panic, but both balls are pretty predictable. Neither ball really flips. I do get some oil from the Sting because I use it on medium + conditions.

I recommend other Motiv products as well like the Power Gel Scuff and polish.

Not trying to troll but man, "medium/higher side of medium" read quickly that's a wtf moment lol.

I picked up a Venom Shock midway through last season, I had been using a Smokin Inferno upon getting back into bowling. Nothing special of why I got the Shock, just wanted to try a Motiv ball. For me it is very similar to my Smokin Inferno. I have really liked it and I am considering something a little weaker and something a little stronger.
