A first time for everything

I throw mostly Motiv an have had good success.

Their balls rarely "bleed" oil when heated, detoxed or (insert your favorite de-oiling method here) in my experience.

Until this week, none of the Motiv balls I owned cracked. I did have a Venom Shock with the Logo separation issue, but not a crack. But this week my Octane Carbon cracked from ring finger all the way around to the thumb hole.

No reason other than sometimes balls crack.

But on the bright side, I didn't use the ball much anyway and it was still under warranty, so my Pro Shop is replacing it with a United Revolt and I will just pay the difference.

A friend of mine got a Jackal Ghost at the very end of last season, used it for maybe six games (300 with the first!), and it cracked all the way around over the summer. Didn't originate from any of the holes drilled either. Just bad luck, like you said no other reason than sometimes balls crack.

On a related note the distributor sent the ball back to the pro shop. Apparently Motiv is no longer allowing the distributor to send warranty balls directly to them? Or maybe that particular distributor isn't sending them to Motiv? It's weird. We're also in Michigan so it's not a distance thing.

Just a heads up for everybody. You might have ship (and pay for shipping) a warranty ball to Motiv yourself from here on out. Don't think there will be any problems with Motiv sending out replacements balls though.

It something that can happen. I finally had my first non Storm ball crack. My Ebonite Warrior cracked through the original plug job after it had been sitting in my spare bedroom for a few months

Yea, every brand can crack. Even the no filler balls. I lost a Legends World Class Reactive a few years ago. No filler, just cover and core, but it cracked just the same.

I've had more Storm/Roto balls crack than all other brands combined. But to be fair, not counting Motiv, I've had more Storm/Roto balls than all other brands combined.

Had a Storm Shift crack in half on me and had a Track Desert Heat disintegrate in the ball return.  The Shift I did keep in hot garage but that ball was garbage so don't miss it a bit.  The Desert Heat I actually liked but some idiot broke into my car and stole it (and other stuff) and the police found it in somebody's yard where I guess they had thrown it out of a moving vehicle.  Next time I used it yeah bye bye ball.  Really the only ball I have now I am paranoid about cracking (still store all but a few inside in my closet these days) is the one most likely for it to happen to and that is my epoxy ball.  That cracks pretty sure will never find another.

Not sure about your case, but we had to take our cracked Motiv ball to the pro shop also.  Motiv wanted us to send pictures of the ball with several drilled holes in it, essentially making it unusable forever.

If I am a manufacturer, I don't want cracked balls sitting around.  Let the pro shop dispose of them and just send proof of no funny business.

Speaking of cracking balls......:D

Three nights ago I went to the storage to look for my elbow brace and to pick up my Blue urethane. Going through the bags, I found my 300 ring from 7 years ago still in mint condition. I shot the 300 in dedication to my father after he passed away a month before.

I told my buddies and the teams on my pair after the front six, "I'm shooting a 3 for my dad"... I didn't realize it caused ppls tears to fall.. That night was special... (my game went down hill for the next 2 years after that night lol)

Anyway, I found my ring and gave it to my 4 year old daughter after I told her the story. I then decided to show her the ball I shot it with. Well the JAZZ from C300 was cracked. From the ring finger all the way around. I was really bummed to find it cracked. If it didn't have meaning behind it, I'd trash it like I did my other balls. V2, Mystic, horizon, power strike, U-turn, phenom, and Eraser all cracked.

Tomorrow I'll go to the PSO and see if he can do something to prevent it from cracking even more. My daughter told me "don't worry dada, you can fix it. it's grandpa's ball."

Never thought a bowling ball would mean so much......
