Just told by driller my new ball was Illegal help.
« on: February 18, 2017, 02:55:23 PM »
I've just started throwing Motiv equipment again after having success with some of their older stuff, Sigma Tour and Sigma Sting. Was looking for a heavy oil piece. I found one on EBay. Well I pulled the trigger on a Jackal. The description was new , rare and the weight slightly under 15 pounds. Ok I'm happy right?  Well my ball driller says I can't use it because it's illegal. It has the word demo on the box. And the ball looks great. My dilemma is can I withdraw my bid as I have won the ball, but what good is it if I can't use it in league play or at nationals. My question is do you think I can get out of the purchase from the seller because there was no mention of the ball being illegal, or am I just stuck?  Thanks guys please help.

Retract your bid on it. Not hard. In description when asks you why, say listing doesn't say its not USBC approved for use during leagues/tournaments.

If the auction has ended, you cannot retract your bid.  You will need to work directly with the seller and explain why you no longer want the item.  The seller most likely is not familiar with bowling products and unaware that the USBC revoked approval of the ball.  If you explain it to them in a reasonable fashion they should have no issue canceling the sale.

or the seller is one that loved the Jackal, and bought a second one to leave undrilled and is now trying to pawn off an illegal ball on someone else that is unsuspecting.

either way, OP, you should retract the bid if possible or work through EBAY and the seller on your other options as noted above.

If the ball says demo, you can't throw it in league, can you? I seem to recall my pso saying demo balls are strictly for pro shop demo use only and not to be sold for use in competition.

If you're bowling a sanctioned league your ball needs to have the USBC approval, which probably has not happened to that (demo) ball.   If you bowl really well with it someone from the other team may call you on the rule and it could penalize your team depending on your own league rules.  It may be as simple as removing it from play immediately, or you could cost your team points.

When I had my pro shop, Motiv would sell me one demo ball of each ball they sell. It doesn't mean it's illegal, it's just to let the pro shop test before they buy! It may be different with the Jackal, being declared illegal with spec from USBC!

I do know that demo balls can't be traded in for the ball exchange. So there's that.

Motiv demo balls are USBC legal for those questioning that part. The Jackal part is where legality is the issue.

While I hope you are able to cancel the transaction, next time a little more research could be in order. Not trying to bash by any means but the winning bid of that auction was $192+ shipping. It seems you only bid on it because SUPER RARE was in the title.

Just bowl in a non-sanctioned league.
Those who can't bowl, bowl with two hands.
