United Revolt...what happened?

So it seemed like the reception from the majority that owned the ball were less than stellar. What happened? Why?

It works for me. Have two of them drilled.

I’ve noticed that the Motiv nation likes to talk about new releases and tend to purchase almost everyone. But they never talk about the negative aspects of a ball and just chalk it up to operator error. The staffers won’t chime in or help on this website or out anything negative in writing.

I passed on the United Revolt because I have the Havoc and never really got excited about it. I couldn’t see spending money on a pearl version. Plus I have the Primal Fear and Rage.

I have the United Revolt T-shirt and still wear it often. I wouldn’t mind getting another black one in XL.

My friend bought one on super clearance last October. Loved it at first but it started losing its reaction and went over/under on him. Then he went to Visionary and was happy with their balls.

Going back even farther in time and space, I saw many United Revolts popup everywhere on release date. Was told by a handful of people it was a must have ball and I need to get one. I wasn’t impressed with it. They were really speed sensitive and over/under.

They lasted 30 days and I think the Code Red took its place.

IMO, they have a problem with pearl coverstocks and core combinations. Take the Panic for instance, what a joke, but the joke was on me because it was my first Motiv ball and I didn’t know better. Then the Forza Redline, I wanted one bad but sat on the sideline and watched for 30 days as they came and went like the Sun rising and setting for a day and they were cast into history. Then the Primal Fear. In my area they sold 2 of them, one to me. And then the United Revolt, an over/under smooth rolling benchmark ball that would confuse most on how the pair actually reads. Now the Trident Quest, I which I think they got it right and gave the cover more traction so it will drive harder into the pocket for better carry potential.

Side Note:
This Shock Pearl looks really slick. I like the marketing in keeping it a Shock and not using a silly suffix to describe it. And the Dual Density core used in the Cobra is a really good small compact fast reving core that would compliment and drive the right coverstock. I’m bummed they didn’t redesign the OG Shock and uograde to the Cobra core and put a stronger Solid coverstock on it. I would buy that.
If they were to do this, it would be replacing the Shock to handle modern oils better. They've tried that like 4 to 5 times now and the upgrade is almost always not as good.

Motiv got the Trident Quest right???

Not in my opinion. But then that's why companies make different balls. Each of us are able to use a ball based on what we do as bowlers. I agree the Panic was a POS, but I know a few people who liked it. The Forza Redline was useless for me as well, but not for others. I love the Havoc as it's just a stronger version of the Covert Revolt.

As for the Motiv staffers, most of them are just parrots regurgitating the company propaganda, but then that's most of every companies staffers I guess.
"If guns kill people, do pencils misspell words?"

"If you don't stand for our flag, then don't expect me to give a damn about your feelings."

If you're looking for a skid snap type look out of their pearls, ala Storm, you're gonna have a bad time. Even the Fear wasn't well received. Replacement for the Rage my eye.

Excellent post. I don't know who does the initial testing for Motiv, but they seem clueless sometimes about the actual reactions of their product line. The Primal Fear is an excellent example. It has a slot in an arsenal, but it is in no way a skid/flip monster like they try to sell it as. The original "Red Ball" was to some extent, but not the Fear.

The only ball I've seen from Motiv that comes close to the "left turn Clyde"(does that date me? :-) ) balls from Storm is the original Paranoia.

Although every new release has the same tired ass staffers claiming it's Motiv's "bestest ever" ball. Of course, the claim is it rolls early, reads the midlane perfectly, makes an impossible left turn at the end of the pattern and has the most amazing continuation though the pin deck ever witnessed by mankind.

Sorry Motiv staffers, but with the exception of MotivMags and JustinWi(not sure what happened to him), I pretty much know the reviews are bullshit as soon as it's posted.

I think they try to make a well rounded line up, and if you compare a Quest to an original Trident, it is probably sharper, but if you're looking for a left turn Clyde out of Motiv, you're going to look at any skid snap ball from Storm and be like "They do it better!!"

Newsflash, Storm OWNS that reaction and has for years. No one does go long snap hard like Storm. That's the truth. If you go to one company expecting to be like another company, you're gonna be disappointed.

When the Dreams came out, I was very disappointed. The ball motion was something that 900 Global didn't have, and I'm sure lots of Storm fans were turned onto Global because of the motion, but I don't throw 900 Global to get a classic Storm reaction. If I wanted that, I'd drill a Storm ball.

Only Motiv I ever owned was a Primal Fear. It was very niche and over/under most the time. From the numbers and the marketing, I expected it to be more comparative to my Hy-Road Pearl at the time. It wasn't but I wasn't really going for that either. I just wanted to try Motiv, and that was my tester.

Their stuff does seem to more so roll off the spot like Brunswick more so than check off it like Storm. Maybe it has to do with the fact that they did Big B's covers in the past and that's just how they formulate still.

I also wondered if they were shooting for a Marvel Pearl out of the United Revolt.

Good observation of Motiv’s pieces (not in the stratosphere of skid-flip motion).

I've bought 3 Motiv balls: Ascent Apex, Havoc, and Tag Cannon.

Shot 300 with the Ascent Apex but I liked the Storm Ride better so I got rid of it.

Havoc paid for itself and then some at a couple tournaments, mainly just sits at home now. I don't bring it out unless I'm bowling on something that's on the shorter side and flat.

Tag Cannon paid for itself and I've used it a lot. Worked great on Viper and rolls great on our house shot when I need to ball down. I wouldn't consider it Skid/flip but it's got plenty of flip for me

A few of my buddies and I got the United when it came out and used it quite a bit. Ball is a lot more round than I think most expected, and wasn't all that great at opening up the lanes. I still have mine, but really only use it in practice as a ball I don't hate putting a lot of meaningless (in score at least) games on.

I'd agree that Motiv hasn't really hit the home run on the flippy balls, the Original Primal Rage was really good, but since then it's been hit or miss, the new Lethal Paranoia is a lot closer, but still doesn't zing like the Storm Pearls that every has come to love.

While not the main focus of this, the Trident Quest has been a complete home run in my area, it's the most popular pearl assym, and that's with a high volume pro shop run by an EBI staffer and and two other shops with no bias in the area. It's been pretty interesting to see die hard hammer and Utah guys give it a try and fall in love.

Big rolly core isn't going to corner very hard. That's not what the vanquish core is about.

I completely agree, but the marketing as referenced earlier, wasn't all that accurate for that release, as it had the hype of best continuation, backend, yada yada yada with it.
