« on: October 23, 2013, 01:20:23 AM »
any one else have any problems with their toxin losing a lot of power? i was absolutely destroying the pins the first 4 weeks and the last 2 i have been hitting dead pocket and leaving splits or single pins...it doesn't seem to be hitting and carrying as good now...any suggestions?

Do you clean it regularly? How often do you use it? Have you tried any surface changes?

Every ball I have ever owned does lose its magic, its why the ball manufacturers are still in business!
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???

i only use it for 3 games every tuesday and then clean it as soon as the set is done...before it even goes back in my bag...

have not tried any surface changes...it seems like the reaction is the still there but it has lost some of it's hitting power/carry...

what would be a surface change to consider?

If anything I would try just a touch of a 4000 pad. Barely knock the polish off. I did this to mine and it came alive. Oil does get into the cover nowadays...cleaning helps, but being it has so low amount of games on it I think the 4000 would take off whatever buildup is there. I would go a little lower if you want to repolish it, I would start with 2000 plus polish and see what happens.

sounds to me like its not the ball, at my local alley there are a few pairs that have off alignment pins and the carry is much worse. There are 3 pairs where the do the semi finals, and finals of the king of the hill tournaments and the pins are spot on and you can tell the difference. But that's my experience with good reaction/bad carry....
just to tell you I'm a high rev / med-high speed bowler and the pair I had last Friday was off alignment and I left 7 solid 7pins on pocket shots and about 4-5 10pins ...

Motiv has excellent information on loss of ball reaction and how to restore the reaction on their website.  Their website is www.motivbowling.com.  Go to the Motivnation tab and click on forum.  Then the Get Motivated forum.

I'll double all the above as possibilities: different lanes in the same house, changes in weather, lack of maintenance on the oil machine, change in oils used or cut back in stripping of the backends.

All coverstocks absorb oil over time, be they polished or dull.

Plus, have you re-polished the coverstock? 6 weeks of use of a polished ball will wear the shine off most balls. It might be too dull for the oil you're seeing now. Surface maintenance is at least as important as cleanliness to consistent ball reaction.

The very first thing that I would do is soak it in hot tap water for 30 minutes at a time to get the oil out of it. After 30 minutes, empty the water, wipe the ball off with a paper towel and soak it again. Keep doing this until no more oil comes out of the ball.

gonna try the tap water bath and then hit it with some black magic xl

Weather does play a huge part in it too. Especially a jump from 50's to 30's. Sounds like you're on the right track with a bath. As far as surfaces go, I've always had really good luck with Motivs taking surface changes. Don't be afraid of them! Good luck!

That is called phasing. Motiv covers tend to do that. It doesn't hurt anything.
