Good heavy oil compliment to the Venom Shock?
« on: April 23, 2014, 03:52:13 PM »
So I recently picked up a Venom Shock and had it punched pin down and around 4" from PAP. This ball is incredible on medium and even medium heavy oil. However, on longer or more saturated conditions, I really have to lay into it and back off my speed to get to the pocket. I'm around 415 revs and speed anywhere from 16 to 18 depending on the shot. I'm also FAR more comfortable throwing away from the pocket than playing straight down and in lines. So with that said, I'm thinking a pin up Primal Rage for a stronger compliment. I'm also about to start my first sport shot league and will definitely need something more aggressive. I've thrown a Cruel Intent and it was a little too much. Covert Revolt may push me even farther out. Need some suggestions or reassurance that the Rage will help fit that bill. Thanks!

The Primal Rage would probably need a significant surface adjustment to fit the situation.  If the Cruel Intent was too much, have you considered a Raptor Talon?  Being asymmetrical might allow you to play away from the pocket more than the Covert Revolt.  Plus the cover strength is different than the Fusion Pearl on the Cruel Intent.

But in the long run, I would feel more comfortable suggesting the Covert Revolt, especially on flatter patterns.  Some flatter patterns do require smaller launch angles.  This is where the Covert Revolt shines the most in my opinion.  And on heavier THS shots (depending on length) you can still play away from the pocket and not lose carry.

You don't think the much stronger down lane reaction will work out compared to my relatively tame layout on the Shock? The only thing keeping me away from the Revolt and Raptor is I'm really after a much more angular back end and from what I gather they are both mid lane monsters. What about a Sigma Sting?

The Revolt is a really odd ball . . but I'd say it is a lot better on flatter patterns too.  It's an extremely good control ball, but it hooks a bit too much to be super useful on house shots.  HOWEVER, it's got a lot of length for as much as it hooks and a nice hard arc on the back.  If you get a heavier THS like spmc says, it will be really nice and it likes deeper angles as long as you have head oil or don't try to bounce it off the dry, it really likes playing in oil.
What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?

You can use the revolt for heavy oil just change the surface to a lower grit I sanded mine to 1000 and used it on the USBC open tournaments team event

From what we've seen, the Covert Revolt is the "match" for the Venom Shock.  Depending on how much hand you have, the Revolt can be useful on house shots.  With medium THS, if you have medium or low revs, you can use the Revolt.
It's not so much that the Primal Rage is much more angular, but it is a little cleaner through the heads giving it a longer look.

If you are looking for strong late midlane and heavy arcing backend, the Covert Revolt would be the compliment.  If you're looking for a bit more strength while maintaining decent length and snappy backend, it would be the Primal Rage.

Then again, there is definitely room for both reactions above the Venom Shock.
