What ball to move to?
« on: July 15, 2020, 09:27:02 AM »
So I am throwing a new venom shock, I need something that rolls a little earlier and is a stronger.  Should I move to a Forge or an alpha jackal?  This is for our league bowling so I don't bowl on a flooded pattern.

I would look in to a Rogue Assassin.  It is a step up from the Venom and has a pretty strong cover.  Add to that the core has a low RG so it should read the lane pretty well from front to back without being overly aggressive.  I think if you went with an Alpha Jackal there would be too big of a gap there.

The Alpha Jackal is a LOT of ball.

Personally, I like the Original Forge for what you ask. If you can't find the original one(red/black), the Forge Fire with a 2000 surface will work just as well, but with the Fire, you will probably find you don't need the 2000 surface. The box finish gives a pretty strong roll.

Also, if you get a chance, try the Tank Blitz, it's an early roller as well.

Agree with the Forge/Forge Fire recommendations above. The Flight isn't all that much stronger than the shock, it starts a bit earlier, and often doesn't look like it hooks as much because it just doesn't change direction as hard as the Shock downlane.

Fire is a little more versatile to me than the OG Forge, but both are good and definitely a full step up from the Shock.

I would pick the Forge/Fire over the others listed.  I believe the Fire is one of the best options for a house shot that Motiv has.  As said above, it is really versatile and can fit what you want.  If you have the speed then the Alpha could be an option but it is a lot of ball.  I do not agree with the above suggestion of the Assassin due to it not really being a stronger ball than the Shock, I understand the chart but from experience throwing both they aren’t much different strength wise.

I'll toss in the recommendation of the Fire too. Alpha is a ton of ball.

The Fire has to be one of the more popular newer balls out there with a good balance of read and backend for oiler lanes. The Ghost is an older ball but it's one I still refer to those looking to Motiv.
