Motiv Arsenal
« on: October 03, 2013, 08:25:24 AM »
After months and months of debating I've finally purchased a Motiv piece.  I punched up a Raptor Talon a couple of days ago to use in my 5 man league that uses a 42' shot that's on the heavier side. Depending on the type of bowlers that we're bowling each week will depend on how the shot breaks down, so I'm sure I'll need a couple of other pieces to compliment the Raptor Talon as transition occurs.  What other Motiv pieces are recommended for use with the Raptor Talon.  I was looking at the Primal Rage as a possibility. I'm thinking about adding two more to give me a good 3 ball arsenal.  I would consider myself a power tweener.  Thanks.

Either the Primal Rage would be a good step down from the Raptor Talon as long as you have the ability to move in substantially.  It is still a strong ball and it benefits those with the ability to move in and bang it off the dry after there has been a spot developed.

If you still want to stay in the "tweener" region after the lanes start to break down, perhaps the Primal Scream would give you a little more versatility in the line you play.  Just depends on how much the shot changes after you move away from your Raptor Talon.

Either way, I don't think you can go wrong.

The Venom Toxin is a great piece for the price.  I just recently drilled up a Primal and a Toxin and they make a awesome 1-2 punch.  Both have the same layout and it's an easy transition from one to the other

From a Raptor Talon I'd next step down to a medium ball a Thrash Frenzy fits there....next down either Venom Toxin or Tribal for light medium.  Tribal will make a harder move off of the spot because of Fusion Pearl cover.  Thrash Frenzy's Whiplash Pearl will be slightly less of a cover but still relatively strong.  Layouts will be of prime importance especially on the Fusion covers.

Here's my arsenal from top to bottom.

2Cruel-OOB Whiplash Hybrid-pin up right of ring-4.25" pin to PAP heavy
Primal Scream-OOB Whiplash Solid-pin up right of ring-4.25" pin to PAP medium-heavy
Thrash Frenzy-OOB Whiplash Pearl-pin up right of ring-4.25" pin to PAP medium
Venom Strike-P2000/polish Atomix Solid-pin under bridge-5" pin to PAP light-medium fresh
Tribal-OOB Fusion Pearl-pin under bridge-5" pin to PAP light-medium
Ascent Pearl-OOB MOTIVator-Z Reactive-2" pin to PAP light
Sniper OOB spares

I agree Scott.  I was weary of jumping down that far for him since I really don't know what the shot is starting out nor what it transitions into.  My first thought was a Thrash Frenzy because I have not seen the Tribal in action yet.  Still a lot of old school Motiv balls in our arsenals.

True that is a big jump.  Really depends more on Blueprints stats.  Mine are in my profile.  I wouldn't consider a Raptor Talon for myself in that I'd use it maybe once or twice a year.  My lower end Motiv pieces work for me over 75% of the time.  Highest I normally go is my Primal Scream on a medium Sr. Scratch league 39'.  Otherwise it's TF and down.

If you are adding two balls to the Raptor Talon.  I would consider the Primal Rage and the Tribal.  You need to factor in the type of ball motion you like to see and consult with your pro shop.  The Venom Toxin and Strike are also good, but the response to friction is a little slower.

That's what is good about Motiv they offer different kinds of reactions thru different kinds of strength covers.

Today on a house shot there was a bit more length and volume than usual.  Luckily I have my Primal Scream at P4000 along otherwise with the other balls Tribal (Fusion Pearl-strong) and Ascent Pearl (Motivator-Z Pearl-weaker)....ball went to long and left 10's.  Switched to PS Whiplash Solid moved in slightly and 4000 cover with a bit more strength was just what I needed.  It's one reason I like Motiv they offer lots of different core/cover reactions.

I agree.  The line up will let you easily choose the reaction you want.
