Bowlers needed for 8/26 Petersen squad
« on: August 10, 2004, 08:26:12 PM »
Hi all,
The Petersen squad on which I bowl is looking for a few more bowlers to fill it.  Here are the particulars:

First, for those who have never bowled the Pete before, here is some overview information:

The tournament runs from the end of April to the beginning of September.  First prize is $25,000, based on the number of entries.  Finishing in the top 100 pays $1000, again based on the number of entries.

The format is eight games over each of the eight pairs of lanes used in the tournament.  I.e.  Every bowler bowls on every lane.  There is a 15 minute (give or take) break after the third game and another after the sixth.  Bowlers are allowed to check in only two balls to be used throughout the tournament.  For more information about the Pete, here is a link to their website:

Our squad bowls on Thursday, August 26 at 11:45 AM.  The following is some additional information about the squad:

The cost is $200, which covers the $80 entry fee and non-optional squad pots.  The squad pots pay out the top five scores on each pair of lanes.  As I mentioned before, all bowlers bowl on all lanes, so if you have one of the top five scores on a pair, you will get money back.  There is also money paid out for the top finishers on the squad (I don't remember how many, however).  There is a prize for the highest low game.  There are a couple "out of the money" prizes, as well.  There may be others that I have forgotten.  In any event, with 32 bowlers each putting in $120 to the pots, there is plenty of money to be paid out.

The squad consists of the following, among others:
Dick Weber and his sons Rich, John, and Pete.  Two of Dick's grandsons also bowl on the squad, along with Pete's wife and father-in-law.
PBA touring player Eugene McCune.
Several PBA Midwest Region players.
We have also had, over the years, players such as Brian Himmler and Ernie Schlegel.  One never knows who might show up to bowl.

Oh, I almost forgot - one more thing - after we finish bowling, (free) food is served in the bar by the squad sponsor.

If this sounds interesting to you, PM me and I'll answer any questions you may have.

Stringer,
On the squad, the top finishers were:
1-Jason Queen - 1519
2-Lyle Zykes
3-Pete Weber
4-Tracy Weber
5-Dick Weber

Those guys won quite a bit of pot money between them.  As the money envelopes were being handed out, whenever a Weber name was called, Tracy took the money.  It was pretty funny.

I didn't win much ($50), but two of my friends that I crossed with got their money back in pots.  There ended up being only four of the 32 bowlers that didn't get anything back.
