My experience has been the opposite of Jeremy's. During my times at the Chicagoland Open and at the pyramid sweeper, I've found success trying to play deep. The straight lines look tempting, but it just doesn't seem to offer consistency or forgiveness.
I bowled 2 qualifying squads for this year's event, the 7:30 and 9 p.m. squads on Thursday night. For the 7:30 p.m. squad, I tried to play my Seek & Destroy pretty straight up between second and third. If eveything was perfect, I was fine. If I missed at all to either side, or my speed was off, split or wash-out city. I went -60 something and only made $30 after laying out $155.
For the second set, I switched to The One, moved to around fourth arrow and had a great look. Went +80 on the board, plus $345. I just missed being the top Thursday qualifier and winning that extra $100.
I know that everyone's game is different, but if you're struggling from the straighter lines, don't be afraid of going in and wheeling the ball. I'm hoping that doing so will send me into the finals to play for the big bucks.
Good luck to everyone who has bowled and who will be bowling. I hope we can have a lot of ballreviews representation in Monday's semis and finals!
