League in Chicago South Burbs
« on: March 09, 2004, 03:22:06 AM »
Hi All,

I have been subbing in a Friday Night Men's league in Palos, Il for the past season, and it is on the verge of collapsing next year.  My dad has bowled in it for forever and it has been around since the 70s and is in big need of bowlers.  The league has moved around a lot over the years, starting at the Palace (Cermak Bowl/soon to be empty lot in Cicero), Bleekers, Arena, and now Palos.  It's a great group of guys, who have been bowling together for ages and don't want to have to find something else to do on a Friday night.  They are looking for some new blood for next season.  Some of the guys asked me to see if I could find anyone who would be interested in bowling next season.  So far, this is the info I have:

Palos Lanes, 111th and Southwest Highway
11025 Sw Hwy
Palos Park, IL 60465

-5 man teams
-handicap
-Fridays at 9:30 P.M.
-8 teams possible for next year but more likely 6 or 7, room for up to 8 or 10 more teams
-probably $20 a week with a payout of $10 a point.
-Lots of pots

I think this is one of the last "Late Shift" Friday leagues around this end of the city, so if anyone is interested, please drop me a line.  It's a pretty competative league and the guys are a lot of fun.  If we get enough teams for next season I'd love to run brackets and such.  When I get more info I'll add it.

Thanks for reading,
Hope somebody will be interested or know someone who is,

Mankow

I haven't gotten the specifics about the starting date, etc. yet, but I'm hoping to get them this Friday.  I will post them as soon as I get them.  I know it is pretty early, seeing that this season isn't even over yet, so as soon as I get more info I will pass it on.

The league at Palos wound up folding.  No matter who we called we could only muster 5 teams.  Two of the teams wound up moving to Orland on Fridays and the rest just decided it was time to retire.

There is another league that is also looking for people.  It's a 9:30 P.M. DOUBLES Handicap league on Tuesdays at Bleekers on 95th St. a little east of Pulaski.  I think we have 8 teams this year.  It's 4 games/$19.00 a week and runs in Quarters, 8 weeks, 9 weeks, 8 weeks, 9 weeks.  With a roll-off between the winners of the 4 quarters.  You can only win one bid into the roll-offs, but you can get first place money for every quarter.

I bowled in it last year, and it's a lot of fun if you don't mind being out until 11:30 on a Tuesday.  It's a good group of people, no whiners or baggers!  just a bunch of people who like bowling.  There's also some really good bowlers, so I was running some decent pots last year.  We had 3 guys in the 210+ range and 5 or 6 honors scores.  If you had a good night you could walk out with $100+ for a $15 investment.  It's not the most challenging condition, but they're wood lanes and there is a shift before us so some weeks you do have to work pretty hard.

I just figured I would throw this out there, in case there were any other night owls who were looking for a fun weekday league.
