ABT Chicagoland Open
« on: May 15, 2006, 03:07:01 AM »
Who's heading out this year? I know that "O" and Rick Wunder will be around. Who else is rolling? I am up for the first two shifts of the event, 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 25. Hopefully, I'll put up about +150 and not have to bother with the 9 p.m. squad, but chance favors the prepared mind. Anyhow, give a shout if you'll be bowling this event.

I'll be bowling it.  I came in 9th last year, and hope to make the cut again at least.    My bowling has really improved, and I still have a decent handicap, so we'll see.  I don't know if I could do a Thursday night squad, unfortunately, since I have to work on Friday.  Maybe I'll see if I could get Friday off or something.

Gene,
You're right - I'll be there, but not on Thursday - I have league that night.  I actually haven't decided when I'll be out just yet.  I'm not planning that far in advance.

With luck, maybe I'll see you and Splendor, and others (not Loose, though ) on Monday.

C'mon, Andy - bowl a couple squads at Classic (near your regular stompin' ground) this weekend, and you'll be eligible to play at Lombard!

I'm sure I'll see you at some point, Rick.  My game is going GREAT lately, ever since I got the Doom and my backswing under control, so I feel pretty good about my chances.  Do you generally try to get on one of the freshly oiled squads, or do you have a particular time you like to bowl?

Nah, i'll be a no go at Classic, I won't have my regular gear as it's being shipped to Corpus, so there would really be no point for me to bowl the week before or the week after.

Sorry to hear that, Andy.  Bowl well, and good luck in Corpus.

Splendor,
I'm glad to hear you're doing well.  Good timing for the Chicagoland Open.

I generally will go out and try to qualify on the fresh condition, since that's what I would see on Monday.  If I don't make the cut on that, I'll generally wait until they get fried (last squad on Sat. or Sun.) and play again.  That has happened to me twice in the last three years.  The good news has been that I was able to figure out what would work better on the fresh (20-20 hindsight - lol), and have done OK in the semifinals.

Nice Excuse Andy !

You only have about 50 other bowling balls that
you are'nt shipping to Corpus Christi ! Anyway,
you drill all your balls the same anyway ! Just
kiddin. Been bowling at Classic on Tuesday in the
doubles league and been using the Slate Blue, they
have been very dry lately. Where do you sign up
for the ABT ? Is there a website ? Kind of interested.

Thirty,
I don't know if your question was addressed specifically to Andy, but I'll take a chance and answer it.

If you would like to join ABT, you may do so on site at most of their tournaments, including the one coming up this weekend at Classic.  All you need to do is show up about an hour before the squad time you would like to bowl.  Bring a copy of your most recent league sheet from the league in which you had the highest average this past season (if you bowled more than one league).  Go into the checkin room and tell someone that you would like to join.  They will give you an application, which you should fill out.  On top of the application is a space for the name of the person who referred you.  If you know someone, like Andy, put his (or her) name in that space (if you don't know of anyone, just put my name ).  Once you have filled out the application, the director will sit down with you and explain the rules and procedures to you.  After that, you will be able to check in, pay your first year's annual membership fee and the tournament entry fee, and bowl.

If you are thinking ahead to possibly entering the Chicagoland Open, you would need to enter this weekend's event four times (re-entries are permitted).  The reason for that is that, to be eligible to bowl in the Chicagoland Open, you must have four tournament entries between the first of this year and the beginning of the Open.

Finally, ABT does have a website.  It is:

http://www.amateurbowlerstourchgo.com/

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me, and I'll be happy to answer them.

Maybe I'll see you this weekend, since I plan to be at Classic, myself.

Good luck!

Is it a handicap event?  If it is, would it be a waste of a 2 hour trip if my average is 225?

Well, in your case it sounds like you'd be in the Master's division.  I think first place for the Master's division last year in the Chicagoland open was over 10 grand.  I could be wrong on that, though.  Again, if you've never bowled the ABT, you'd have to enter this weekends tournament 4 times to qualify for the Chicagoland open.
