Wisconsin State Tournament
« on: April 05, 2011, 12:56:39 PM »
Anyone rolled the WI State tourney in Waukesha yet? Just wondering what the two houses are like and did the shots play on the oily side or drier. I'm not asking for a rundown on how to play the lanes just general observations.

Minors will play much looser than team....when I say "much looser", I mean 4-7 boards less free hook.

Are you saying that minor events hook less than team?

Sunset Lanes-team plays much tighter on a new lane surface Bruns Pro Anvilane than the old worn out wood of Waukesha AMF-minors.  That's what 230 is saying I believe.  Scores are there to be had but it will take some good break down to make them easier.

^^^^^ What Scott said.

Even though the patterns are the same for both events, the surfaces make lane play much different.  The plastics used in team event will promote something with a fair amount of surface to get any kind of an early read and help to promote a little burn area for your team to take advantage of in games two & three.  The wood surface utilized for minors will allow for much more free hook early in the squad.  Be careful, however, you don't want to torch the pattern on lanes that have been seasoned with a TON of lineage.  There's a little bit of hang (moreso in team) for each event until you've had a chance to break down the pattern a little bit but after that you can expect a very scoreable condition for both events.  FYI, you'll need 2400 to take over handicap AE lead and 2350 for scratch AE.  My quest for second place will take place Easter weekend.

Thanks for the info guys. Like I said I'm not looking for you to give away secrets but when you live up north like I do and have no idea about the lanes, it's nice to know if they are on the oily or dry side. Thanks again!

Scott, Rob, can you believe this guy actually bought into our line of BS...??

You might want to pm riggs, too.  Although I'm pretty sure he'll echo what we've said.  Good luck and I hope that we've helped.

Rob, I shot 751 last year in doubles....now I know I've got some motivation!

TDC57,  I don't know what type of shot they are putting out for the state tourney, but I can tell you that if it is the same pattern at both houses,  your ball will hook at AMF a ton more than at Sunset.  I am currently bowling in a league at Sunset and I have bowled in leagues recently at AMF.  With fresh ths at Sunset I have to throw a solid reactive and at AMF on ths I throw a pearl reactive polished.  A pearl reactive polished will not even wrinkle for MOST people at Sunset early on.

98superstock, I appreciate the info. I'm a stroker with slower speed and not a lot of revs. I mainly just like to know if the lanes are play tight or hook more. Knowing that I hopefully choose the right ball and play a line that gives me a chance. I am not a guy who wants know exactly where the shot is so I can beat what you shot. I don't have a game that can win my division. I just want to be prepared to be around the pocket and hopefully make some bracket money. Thanks!

TDC57,

I have an older member on my team who is a stroker with slower speed (12.5 - 13.5 mph) and low revs.  He is one of the only bowlers I see throwing pearl to start out.  If he gets fast it will squirt right by the break every time.  That being said Sunset plays way tighter than AMF.  AMF with the old wood will certainly hook more than the new synthetics (installed just this fall) at Sunset.

Well you guys nailed it exactly on Sunset and AMF Waukesha lanes. They played much tighter at Sunset and hooked at AMF Waukesha. Never felt overly comfortable at Sunset. The lanes weren't that bad but I never felt just right personally. At AMF Waukesha I threw the ball pretty well in practice but once we started I was awful. Got righted at the end of the first game then went on a pretty good tear for the next four. I got a little off the last game (I think the partying the night before maybe was catching up) but finished well off the pace I'd had. Ended up winning a nice amount of money in brackets and was well over my average for the tournament. Thanks again.
