$1,200 First Place at AMF Capitol Plaza - Sept 28, 2008
« on: September 22, 2008, 04:06:13 AM »
The Amateur Bowlers Tour (ABT) Classic Division was founded in September 1977 to give average bowlers, 189 and under, the opportunity to compete against bowlers of their own ability on a handicap basis for guaranteed prize money. Since then, the sport of bowling has enjoyed many technological advances in equipment and lane conditions that improved scoring dramatically. The Amateur Bowlers Tour has recognized those changes we in turn have also made changes to improve our organization and ensure that bowlers continue to have the fairest opportunity possible to compete. The ABT now features two separate divisions: the Classic Division for bowlers with averages of 189 and under and the Master Division for bowlers with averages of 190 to 225. Handicap for the Classic and Masters Division is calculated at 80% of the difference between a bowler’s tournament average and 225. Both divisions carry guaranteed prizes in each event with one cash position paid for a minimum of every six entries. The final cash position is never less than the entry fee for the event.

In November of 2007 the Amateur Bowlers Tour, Washington DC Branch reopened. Since that time tournaments have been conducted almost every weekend. Over 100 bowlers have joined this branch and shared in over $70,000 in cash and prizes in the Washington DC Metropolitan area alone (this is why we say this weekly tournament is the best kept secret in the NORTHEAST REGION). Nationwide more than $500,000,000.00 has been paid out.

PRIZE MONEY: The Washington DC Branch of the Amateur Bowlers Tour GUARANTEES its prize money based on entries. First place for singles events will always be based on entries a minimum of $300.00 with a graduated prize fund schedule where as if the branch generates more entries the prize fund and first place are increased accordingly. First place for Singles events will follow this breakdown: 3 to 29 entries - $350 30 to 39 entries - $450 40 to 59 entries - $500 60 to 69 entries - $600 70 to 79 entries -$700 80 to 89 entries - $800 90 to 99 entries - $900 100 to 109 entries - $1,000. We also guaranteed each semifinalist will cash. There will be special tournaments where first place will be guaranteed at larger amounts than those above.
NOTE:
1 in 5 bowlers will cash in all WDC events (unless otherwise noted)
NATIONALS: Normally, twice a year the ABT holds a National tournament in Las Vegas where the first place prize for the Classic Division is $53,000.00 and the Masters $25,000.00. In order to bowl in these events you must have at least ten (10) squads bowled in your branch in the previous twelve months prior to the cutoff date for the National event.

WDC BOWLER OF THE YEAR AWARD: There will be a Bowler of the Year award ($1,000 & Trophy) given to the bowler that earns the most money in the WDC ABT this year. This award is strictly based on dollars earned from the Washington DC (WDC) Tournament events and new memberships to the WDC branch only. Details can be found at our website www.wdc.abtbowling.com Click on the WDC BOWLER INFO TAB.

I don't understand the Avg. limitation on the Master's Division.  What is the difference between a 225 avg. and anything above that, other than an easier house shot?

There are alot of bowlers that avg. 226+ that should be allowed to compete.

    Stephen,

Not too prolong this discussion too long. The National Headqauarters have deemed that the average cut off for anybody interested in joining the ABT to be 225. I have the capability to form a Scratch division within our branch but I don't think I will have the support plus we have at least two fine Scratch Tournament Organization in this area that are working very fine together. If you have further questions on the 225 average cap I would suggest you visit our National Headquarters website at www.abtbowling.com and voice your concerns there.

    Les,

Thanks for your response, as it makes perfect sense now.  Plus, establishing a scratch division would not be worth your time and efforts in this area.  The two scratch organizations you speak of are all this area can handle right now, as they struggle to get more than 40 bowlers an event.

Thanks again for the input, just curious.
